Having a good backup like Fromm will push him to be a lot better.

Why Smart would fall for the trap of having to hire Chaney to get Pittman is even more crazy.

Because Richt neglected the OL for so long that we need Pittman to get it back to a competitive level before we can expect any level of decency out of our offense, regardless of who the OC is.

Chaney had no problem making the passing game work at UT with Bray and co. The biggest issue we had with Chaney was him neglecting the run completely. He was the kind of OC who calls for a 40 yard bomb on 3 and 1. There was no balance to the offense at all and the lack of a run game + scoring quickly off bombs was often a detriment to an already poor defense (series with Chaney were like this: we'd either score quickly or go 3 and out).

That said, I don't see Chaney as the reason Eason's numbers were low last season. If anything, he's a pass happy OC that neglects the RB position. Eason was coming from a very 'meh' level of HS competition and faced a much steeper learning curve than the vast majority of prospects ranked 4* and above. This year shouldn't be as difficult for him provided UGA finds someone besides Nauta to catch the ball (Nauta's great but you need more than one guy) and fixes the OL.

Our WRs played a big role in Eason's numbers last year. Stanley and chigbu were drop machines that hopefully stay off the field this year.

This is fair, but all qb's have drop machines. Last year, IMac made most of his yards after the catch, but still goes on Eason's total passing yards.

Eason wasn't a victim of any particular circumstance. His only excuse is youth and inexperience.

Can't even blame the OL.

THis year, there are no excuses. If the OL sucks, he has to find a way to dump it off. If the defense stacks the box, he's got to read the field and the play and the down and distance, and change the call. And when the defense adjusts after Eason changes the play, he's got to be able to change it again.

If Eason can't handle it, Fromm can.

Eason has the better arm, but having the long ball is only 5% of the game. He's got to get better at the other 95%.

Murray wasn't known as a gunslinger, but he could damn sure throw the ball down the field to an open receiver. Eason struggles to identify open receivers in real time.

Hopefully all this changes in 2017. If it doesn't, he gone.

Eason had a promising freshman year all things considered. He's got a long way to go to turn that into something we can win an sec championship with..

That is a fair statement. He has so much potential. But I don't think he is a 4 year project.

He was an early enrollee with all of winter workouts, spring practice, summer workouts and practice, Fall camp, then started most of the games (after splitting time with Lambert), had good moments and bad moments, has really good running backs, had a mentor in Lambert, now has competition to drive him, and a second Winter, Spring, Summer of tutelage under the coaches and system, bigger playbook, and Chubb/Michel coming back, and a couple more five star skill players in the mix.

He doesn't have to win the Heisman this year, but he better play a shitload better.

Oh... and for those of you who don't know... if you don't follow the UGA Sports Board...

QB Jacob Fromm hunts deer and catches big bass, and is a homegrown GA boy.

QB Eason is a pretty boy from out West.

The fanbase will turn on Eason very quickly if he doesn't set the world on fire.

Watch it happen.

Not all WRs have drop machines on the field and an ol that can't block well. Both made 2016 tougher on him, more so due to his inexperience. Identifying the open guy requires a wr to get open in the first place, which didn't happen enough. It also requires reasonable protection, which also didn't happen enough. After that, the guy needs to catch the ball, which also didn't happen enough.

Funny you mention Murray. As a fan of a school who plays you every year (well since 92 and a lot before that), the two best qb's I've seen from Georgia were Eric Zeier and David Greene.

Playing Murray we were always waiting for him to throw an interception or an incompletion.

Wouldn't surprise me if Stafford went unbeaten against South Carolina, but I watched every game he played against us, and I never got the same fear of him driving a stake into our hearts I got with Zeier and Greene.

DJ, there was an open receiver on almost every play throughout the season.

Regarding dropped passes, the reason 70% completion is considered elite for qb's is because it is assumed people will drop passes, or you throw it away when the play breaks down.

I haven't given up on Eason yet, but making excuses for him in his second year isn't productive.

Lots of qbs have OL issues and wr issues, they still play well. Good qbs make everyone around them better. That's who Eason needs to be.

Or Fromm takes it.

Greene sucked vs sc in 2001 and 2002, and he threw an early pick 6 vs sc in 2004, so if you were impressed by him, then it's safe to say your opinion on qbs needs some work.

This idea of yours that all qbs deal with the same level of shite is way off. I am making excuses for his freshmen year. We don't know how much those issues will be fixed yet to comment on his sophomore season. There were many plays that didn't have an open wr. It's no secret they struggled to get separation. That takes athleticism and time, which was reduced because the ol often got blown up from multiple areas.
