I think the majority of us know Missouri as well as other states were divided. It's just that, for the most part, we consider the tried and true South to be the ones that joined SC in seceding from the Union.
And seriously, most of us use the term yankee in referencing y'all simply to get on your nerves. Expansion hazing and all that.

exactly what is a yankee? new Englanders are called Yankees. when I was young, all of us in south Louisiana called north Louisiana folks Yankees (amongst other things).
and Alabama is NOT the "jewel" of our conference.
the jewels of the SEC are clearly Florida, Georgia, LSU and Tennessee. we are the schools that put the southeast in the southeast. the SEC identifies itself with these schools and if we leave y'all are fricked.

Okay, let's analyze a bit. Coming from the Atlantic, using Charleston as a reference point, One has to go through S.C., Georgia, Mississippi then there's Louisiana. Better way would be just to take I-10 from Jax, through Florida, part of Bama, Mississippi then Louisiana is reached. So much for the Southeast argument.
Bama comment does not require analyzing. The Gumps are the best team in the history of the SEC.

There's some rumblings that Loweezyana ain't quite near as Southern as the rest of us. Something to do with dastardly Frankish blood in y'all's heritage.
