No DC at Bama will ever have their name associated with the defense in terms of ownership. I think that is apparent from the NC game coverage. All of them referred to it as a Saban defense. "It's not fair for Gilbert to have to go up against a Saban defense in his first game."

On the other hand UT's defense was Muschamp's defense. That is why we will lose DC's to other DC jobs at big time schools as long as Saban is there. Get used to it Bama fans.

Saban is gold for guys like Steele and Smart. They can coach under him with his direct help and get raises elsewhere when they are done. Saban is like a great CEO for defensive coaches. They can learn under him and look great doing it and then use that experience to climb the ladder. Saban gets to broaden his coaching tree and gets to enhance his influence/legacy in the college game. Bill Belichik is the same way in that many guys have got better jobs due to working under him and he has established a vast inluential coaching tree that will be there after he leaves coaching.

Yes. Exactly. This is why anyone who claims Steele or Smart are making "lateral moves" either has no idea what they are talking about, or they are trying to flame.

I think it comes more from a misguided belief that if they leave Bama it makes us look bad or is somehow negative. The only real negative is recruiting, which is totally understandable. But even then, you always have the constant of having Saban as your HC and he is one of the best, so you really don't have to worry much about that aspect either.

As it goes with any coaching situation, I'm hearing conflicting reports now. He's definitely been offered obviously, but there are people close to him that are saying that he is not taking it. I don't know who to believe now.

Speaking of defensive coaches leaving for other jobs, I'm glad that Superdouche Lance Thompson left when he did. Kiffin will still probably say that Thompson deserves credit for the NC.

Knoxville = Home of the Mooseknuckle.

My guess is Sunseri will be promoted. He's one of our better recruiters and we will probably get a new defensive backs coach. But that is just a guess. I could be totally wrong.

I cannot make any good argument for him leaving Bama for a lateral position.

Saban goes through assistants like toilet paper. They all like the success under Saban but prefer working for someone a bit less demanding. Happened at LSU repeatedly.

If Smart decides to stay at Bama,I for one have no problem with UGA getting T. Grantham from Dallas.....
