People have a short memory. Urban Meyer was way worse. Remember the timeouts he called against Georgia with less than two minutes to go in the game when Florida was up 49-10? How he planted that story to SI about his health issues less than a month after his loss to Bama in the 2009 SEC Championship Game? Or how he tried to recruit Jevan Snead to Florida by saying that he was planning to convert Tebow to LB?

In all fairness, the players love him. I remember when he left Alabama for CSU, one of our 4th string HBs followed him there because he loved coach Mac so much. Every player always sang his praises in interviews fwiw

I've been saying for a few years that McElwein was a bad hire for Florida. It was a bad fit and while he was a respected at Alabama, he is more of a West Coast guy. He's tried to compensate by being an arse because he thinks that is what Saban would do, but it doesn't fit him.

Nice guy in person. Don't get why he is hated. Guy is an aw shucks type. Basically the opposite of Meyer. The real reason he is hated is simply he is the UF coach. He isn't good enough to be the most hated.

He's very different from Meyer and Spurrier on the a-hole scale. Hell, even Muschamp fits on there with his in game behavior.
I don't remember much about the Zooker except that Gator fans hated him.

His players and other coaches around the league seem to like him so I'm sure he's a respected and likeable guy in reality. LSU fans just hate him cause he specifically called out their program and fans.
But he's a bit too cocky about his abilities when he hasn't done jack squat. And he looks like a damn slob. Reminds me of Charlie Weis.

I promise you Petrino hasn't chilled out one bit. He is still a world class a-hole. But he actually puts on a pretty good routine in front of cameras. (Not the slip ups in game, but like at press conferences) He is generally complimentary of other coaches and programs, and does his best to sound hunky dory. Behind the scenes though he's about as douchebag as it gets.
Funny thing is I firmly believe that Bielema is exactly the same. Total a-hole behind the scenes and some of the shite he has said since his seat got hot really put a sour taste in my mouth about him.
I agree with someone earlier saying Urban Meyer is biggest shithead out there. And James Franklin is probably a close second.
The Penn State hire really surprised me there. They fired a guy who condoned rape, only to hire another guy that recruited rapists to a place like Vanderbilt.
