Let me put it this way. If A&M loses to Bama I'll get drunk and the sun will rise the next day. Come to the Rant tip my cap to Bama and move on. Still have a shot at a really good season, even if the NC/SECC are basically out of reach.

The week after the Texas game in '11 felt like death. It was especially painful because I live in Austin. I can't even fathom how hard it would have been had we not won the '99 Bonfire game.

The stakes are high for A&M to win this game but honestly if we don't it's not like we are going to fall into the abyss. It's just a great opportunity lost. It would be nice of Ole Miss to go ahead and beat Texas Saturday night though either way, just in case. At least it would be an aspirin for a broken leg.

No, this game will never trump them beating the Horns. It's a big game and would be a big win but not like beating the instate guys.

In 2009 we celebrated way more after downing AU than we did at the Rose Bowl after the game.
There is NOTHING like beating your instate. nothing.

Winning isn't always on the football field.

Only three times in the history of the A&M Football program has a matchup between two top ten teams taken place on Kyle Field.

1975: #2 Texas vs. #5 Texas A&M

2011: #6 Oklahoma State vs. #7 Texas A&M

2013: #1 Alabama vs. #6 Texas A&M

There were two home games that Mike Sherman could not lose if he wanted to keep his job after 2011:

Baylor and Texas.

Yes. Infinitely.

This game means more to the future of football in Texas on all levels than any other game has in the last 120 years. This game has the potential to be the final turning point, rather than a meandering swap of the Premier status. This game could change the landscape for 100 years. I think the 12th Man will be ready to roar.

For national exposure this one is much bigger than anything previous against Texas or anybody else. It's the new guy with the smartass QB vs. Satan. Everybody coast-to-coast who cares about college football will be watching.

I'm not sure what your definition of "big" is. Several A&M vs. Texas games determined the conference winner, which to me is big. (This game establishes a favorite, but there are still plenty of games to go and Tigers in the way. A&M vs. Texas was most often the last game of the year and sometimes the actual conference championship game.) Were those games big to somebody in Montana? Probably not, and 9/14 they'll be watching in Montana.

The only straight answer to your question for me is there's just no way to surpass the '99 Bonfire game, and that was 20 years after I graduated.

And I will always cherish that Baylor victory, with RG3 pitching a fit on the sidelines.

And don't forget the tard crushing streak.

I would hug Mike Sherman if I saw him today...

Well said
I still have a mental image of old lady standing up on her table in McDonald's in Lubbock, jabbing her witch fingers at us, telling us in very certain terms that Aggies Suck and demanding that we leave immediately. I think we were ruining her Big Mac. (We won 3 of 4 in my years, though. I can't imagine how unbearable it would be to lose to those cretins.) It's Tech that has me curious why so many younger Aggies hate Baylor so much. I wasn't a BU fan at all, but... what?

I was a mid-00's Aggie so I hated Tech almost more than Texas. Sherman really helped get past that. Now I think we just don't want to validate them anymore.

As far as Baylor, they really poked the bear when they tried to stop our SEC move. That put them on the permanent shite list and lost them the chance to play the team that set their stadium records in OOC.

If we EVER play them again OOC I will be so pissed.

Yeah, part of me was hoping that the sips would force bitchass baylor to play Thanksgiving every year in Austin. That would totally annihilate their entire school budget, not just the athletic department.

I don't know how they are affording that new stadium without us playing in it.

Texas racked up a bunch of wins when we were an all male military academy. If you are under 40, Texas has a losing record against A&M in your lifetime.

I'm no Texas fan and would cheer for A&M to beat Texas even before A&M was an SEC representative. But this statement is at best misleading and at worst untrue.

One would actually have to be 25-38 years old for the A&M to have a non-losing record vs. Texas during their lifetime and even then the Aggies would at best be break-even or at most a 1-game lead in the series. And in recent history during the BCS era, it's been much worse for the aggies: Since 2000, 3-9 vs UT. Since 1995, 5-12 vs. UT.

A&M pretty much owned UT for the 9 years between 1985-1994, A&M played UT even from 1975-1984 but was owned by UT before 1975 and has been pretty much owned since 1995 head-to-head.

Again, I always enjoyed when A&M beat UT but it was candidly because UT was considered a national powerhouse and A&M was considered the underdog. But when aggies "brag" about their last 40 years of success vs. UT, it only adds to UT's credibility and takes away from the Aggies'.

Yes, by a mile. No doubt about it, period.

This is more than just a game. Its a clash of philosophies and if A&M wins, it will change the landscape in the state of Texas over night.

The importance for Saturday is in the future recruiting for A&M. We really can put our feet on the throats of other in state schools and start creating some distance from them.

It's been the great undertaking once we got into the SEC.

For me, personally,
1. Bonfire game
2. Saturday

I can get behind that absolutely - at least against Ken Starr. It was my impression the hate predated the SEC move, and it just never made sense to me. Back when dinosaurs roamed the Earth we never had any problems with BU students home or away. Sure as hell nothing like Tech or Lubbock in general. And with Baylor's F:M ratio many of us dated Baylor women.
