Surely you had a bigger game vs Texas in your past.

OU yes. The Texas game was always so late in the year that one team wasn't playing for anything significant.

Texas racked up a bunch of wins when we were an all male military academy. If you are under 40, Texas has a losing record against A&M in your lifetime.

Media wise, yes. Hype wise, yes.

Bigger than any game we EVER played against Texas? Beside the Bonfire game and the SWC Championship game I would almost go as far as saying in terms of campus to campus hype the last Thanksgiving game was bigger. End of a rivalry etc...

It could come into play later in the year. 9/10 times UT played TAMU, only UT had something to lose.

I'm just speaking from a personal importance angle. That game was a healing process in and of itself.

Yes - Texas was never this good (Bama). At least in the modern era of football.

My goodness guys.

Is this game really that big for A&M? If so, your team has no history. I mean, OM, MSU, Arky, AU, TN, LSU, and most of the others in the SEC play Alabama all the freaking time . . .

It is just the next game!!

Give it a rest.

The buzz for this game is insane. And it is an interesting spot. For us, the SEC is still a new world full exciting teams with rich tradition. This is like a huge nonconference game (in that we aren't used to playing Bama) that is also a huge conference game. Add that they are #1, and that we upset them as #1 last year, it is hard to get more hyped for a game than this.

Since 1975 A&M has a winning record against Texas and two more conference titles. In the history of the rivalry, A&M is 5-4 in games that decided the conference champion.

Oops.

The biggest problem with the A&M-Texas series is that the two programs were never (or very rarely) good at the same times.

Texas was very good in the 2000s, A&M was awful.

A&M was very good from the mid-80s through the 90s, when Texas sucked.

That cycle has always been the case, and is still the scenario even today when the two schools aren't playing.

Since the game was always the last game of the year, it's always been a series where the team with the lesser record was trying to ruin the season of the better program in that given year. As odd as it seems, the two schools rarely met where both schools were playing with a conference title on the like.

That is why the Texas-OU game exploded beginning around 2000. For almost a decade straight, the winner of the OU-Texas game was the clear favorite to win the conference due to A&M's program being mostly irrelevant in the 2000's.

The series record is skewed due to circumstance. The reality is that since both athletics program have been on anything resembling equal footing it's been pretty equal. A&M actually dominated the series for a quarter century.

In terms of national exposure and importance you could make the argument this is the biggest game. If A&M wins they can make the argument they are the best team in College Football.

In terms of emotions absolutely not. The '85 Texas game, the '99 Bonfire Game, and the '11 Texas game all were more significant because of the rivalry factor and what was at stake personally. I was very young and don't remember Texas in '75 when both teams were Top 5 and we got on the cover of SI (only to lose to Arkie the next week in Fayetnam). All of those games felt like life or death and the results of those games are permanently etched in the psyche of any Aggie fan that was at those games.

This is more like when we beat Nebraska in '99 when they were #2 and had a ridiculous winning streak or when we beat #1 OU in '02. Only since we are new to the SEC and the spotlight is brighter on A&M than ever before with the potential for A&M being greater than ever before it is bigger.

Winning last year propelled us to the top of the Texas football landscape. Winning this year would solidify that position.

We are going to have a much better team next year than we have this year. If we manage to get a win this week, the recruits we bring in based on that win could be set up to be a major power for several years to come.

It's not a big game in the sense that you are thinking. It's not like "OMG ALABMA SUCH A HUUUGE GAME AND MAJOR OPPONENT!!" It is more like "OMG if we win this weekend we will be top dog in the state for the next decade, regardless of what the other Texas universities do."

In Texas, this game has a huge novelty factor as its a big game that is not Big 12.
