In the B10 vs. SEC debate we are all quick to point out how dominant the SEC has been on the field. There is no comparison.

But here is the interesting part. Despite SEC dominance on the field for 2 decades now, the B10 has gotten a better tv rights deal every time throughout those 20 years. Large corporations don't make multi-billion dollar offers unless they see value.

The B10 is at an all time low in on the field product with Penn St, USC, Michigan, and Nebraska all playing below their historical blue-blood norm. So imagine if 7 years from now in the next round of tv rights talks, 2 or 3 of those schools are playing at a national title caliber level in addition to OSU? What would the B10 be worth then? All but maybe Nebraska are capable of it.

The SEC should have smoked the B10 financially this round. Why didn't we?

It's like the old civil war, South may have had more quality brass and tactics, but when it came to spending and acquiring capital to drive their efforts, they fell flat.

B1G is going to cause the SEC to make some bad decisions financially in the coming years, and that will doom them.

Elite recruits aren’t choosing to go to the Big10 over the SEC because of TV rights.

I think we’ll be just fine.

As long as the Big 10 states have a higher average population than SEC states, they will be able to demand more tv money.

The Cali schools aren’t built for prominence anymore, they have few fans and no football interest outside the NFL teams, their facilities are very old. Michigan is probably the only one of those that can get to a top national level. Nebraska can compete with the right coach, they have the donor money and fan support to be competitive. Regardless what people say on here the SEC will have Bama, LSU, OU, Texas, UGA, and at some point FL taking the top recruits nationally so outside of tOSU and Michigan those other schools won’t have the players. Look at the top 10 in recruiting right now.

As much as we don't want to admit it, the B10 at its worst has been making more money than the SEC at its best. We have done everything we can to fully supplant the B10, including adding the highly lucrative Texas market, and yet we keep having to play catch-up financially.

I'm not predicting doom. The SEC will be just fine. But its a little alarming that the B10 has nowhere to go but up in on field product and still make more money than us.

I don't know if they're sleeping, but the constant handwringing on here about their TV deal is putting me to sleep. They have more population in their states. This isn't hard to figure out.

I feel like the SEC will have the advantage as long as the bulk of NFL players come from the SEC footprint

The big 10 has the wealth to continue to limp along. At one time, Minnesota was a power. The big 10 is destined for Minnesota’s future. Once that happens, college football will be just a regional sport.

A lot of uncertainty in college football as far as conferences go. Once SEC accepted the ESPN deal, CBS and other networks had to overpay just so they didn’t miss out on one of the super conferences

Honestly, not sure how much longer college football is even a thing. They have found ways to suck the life out of it.

The Dallas Cowboys are the most followed, most valuable, highest ratings team in the NFL.

Haven’t sniffed the Super Bowl in over 25 years.

They don’t get the players. The players are in the South. That’s not changing. Additionally, Every year that passes, more upper middle class midwesterners move south. Their kids go to SEC schools.

It may be a moot point bc college football is a tip toe away from semipro now. And when that happens it’s dead. There are no economically vibrant AAA sports.

This national brand stuff is nonsense. Michigan football dies without the support of the people in Michigan. Michigan is a thing because the people in Michigan have pride in their state school. And that goes for every major football program.

The exception might be ND because of the Jesuit loyalty of Catholics around the country. And maybe Duke basketball but the dollars there are much more insignificant.

Pro sports are a totally different animal.

Demographics is the main driver for football success.

Demographics do not favor the B10.

I’m thinking that’s not a bad thing.

While the conference as a whole isn’t, you could also make the same case for the SEC with some teams. As much as the SEC has been dominant, there’s still some programs that aren’t performing how they have in the past (Tennessee, Florida, Auburn, etc.) and some programs that have really stepped up in recent years which is a compliment to the SEC’s depth.

It’s also not a coincidence those big ten teams are down. College football is changing
