I just think any average coach could do what he's doing at Bama. A great coach would rarely lose

there are a lot of coaches at big time football schools who recruit very well every year. the list of college coaches with the number of bscnc trophies than saban has won is not very big.

I feel like there are probably around 20 other coaches that could do as good or better than what Saban has done. He should definitely be on the hot seat after two losses. That's unacceptable with the resources he has been given.

Obvious troll but, after 7 seasons, Saban has a better winning percentage and more national titles than Bryant had after his first 7 seasons with the Tide.

Way harder to do now too.

So 1 good class explains our success in 2008 and 2009?

He's a terrible coach. Bama should fire him.

Alabama had two good classes prior to 2008. The 2007 class was #10 and the 2006 was #11, therefore Bama had solid talent. The 2008 class had 32 signees and Saban purged the roster just like a NFL GM would do.

He did it at LSU in 2001. He signed the best recruiting class in LSU's history in 2001 and won the SEC Title that year. After signing the 2nd best recruiting class in LSU's history in 2003, LSU won the National Title in 2003.

It's all about talent, my man. No talent, no titles. He's the best damn recruiter in the history of college football.

What separates the good head coaches from the bad?

Hiring an elite staff

Hiring great recruiters

Being able to relate to players

Being able to motivate

Knowing when to take big risks (see Jimbo Fisher going for that fake before halftime of the championship game)

Get players to buy in

Putting players in position to succeed

Don't go away from what works.

This is what comes to mind very early.
