Proceed with caution though when it comes to Wikipedia.
exactly. A girl in the late 1920's came up with the name "Ole Miss" for the year book and the name stuck. The most popular train in MS at the time that ran from Memphis to New Orleans was called "Ole Miss". The girl was not alive when that "Ol' Misses" was used as wiki says, but she was alive when the train named "Ole Miss" was running.

It's also the name of the Memphis to New Orleans express train that ran at the same time the school adopted the nickname.

Yes, Ole Miss is next.

Even the train is an unecessary reach. (By this I mean the train was named that for the same reason as the yearbook)
It's short for Old Mississippi. Everyone with a brain knows this. The end.

Where'd the train get its name from?
Posted on 8/19/16 at 2:33 pm to texag7
It ran up and down the Mississippi. The Mississippi is nicknamed Old Man River. Use your brain.

Literally zero people are clamoring for this, that I know of.
Give it 10 years, they will run out of things to be mad about and they will land at the name "Ole Miss"

Less, if you don't get admin with balls.

Considering its route spanned, almost exclusively, the entire state of Mississippi Imma go with Mississippi. In fact, you're a moron if you think it represents any other word.

Ole Miss is racist. They would only be holding themselves back by not changing that stuff.
The KKK had a rally because a student was dropping N bombs on a Youtube video
Some Student called the student body president the N word
Some students put a noose around the James Meredith statue
I remember all of that stuff happening at Ole Miss while I was at UT, which was recently.
I just think it would be wise for Ole Miss to separate itself from confederate symbols because they have the worst reputation in the country when it comes to race relations.

My guess would be "coonass" being next.

Old Mississippi is the problem. Old Mississippi hated blacks.
Posted on 8/19/16 at 3:47 pm to Jack Daniel
There were no blacks in old Mississippi. Whites either for that matter.

That actually doesn't seem to make as much sense as the alternative.
Was there a history of the use of the term "Old Mississippi"?
