Yep, the job isn't as good as it once was. People aren't that interested anymore. Foley is an idiot.

Or the next Derek Mason.

The only thing that would make me nervous is the guy is very much a Midwest guy, which suggests, Bama career aside, that he has few in-roads into Southeast and Florida recruiting. Obviously UF sells itself to a great extent, especially with Florida recruits, but experience with a region counts for a lot. He'd need to hire a slam-dunk assistant or two who possess ties to the area and the local recruiting scene.

Im not too worried about his recruiting ability. I mean I can see it now. He walks in at some South Florida High School to meet a 5 star WR, QB, and RB. He meets the recruits and says hey guys I am coach McElwain. The recruits go who? Then it proceeds as follows.

Coach JM: My bad guys let me introduce myself. I am Jim McElwain the new UF coach and I need you 3 at UF. (looks at the QB) I just had a QB throw for 3779 yards at CSU which was the 7th best passing attack in the country. (looks at the RB) Let me tell ya son, you got potential at UF. I put 2 running backs in the NFL and one of them won a Heisman when I was a coach at Bama. (looks at the receiver) you ever heard of Rashard Higgins? You know? That receiver that was a zero star recruit thats got 67 more reception yards and 3 more td receptions then Amari Cooper. Yep thats the last guy I just coached up. Watch the NFL any? There is a guy named Julio Jones that used to play for me. (looks at all 3 of them) So if you 3 wanna commit to UF and break some records, turn this thing around, get to the NFL and become legends and oh yeah by the way (reaches into pocket pull out 2 SEC Championship rings and 2 NC championship rings and throws em on a table in front of the recruits) if you wanna win a couple of these sumbitches right here along the way, then sign on this dotted line.

What makes you think he has already been hired?

I think he would be good hire. It is a risk, but the reward could be huge.

Dan Mullen is laughing his arse off. will UF fans still think Foley is the greatest super duper AD if its true he hired McElwain and scheduled a home & home? this move is boneheaded on a jay jacobs level.

McElwain is a great choice. In big games he always called great games. 2008, Clemson and UGA, 2009 SECCG, 2011National championship. He is used to working with mediocre QBs and winning like McElroy. Also his offense compliments a strong defense and UF still has a loaded roster on that side of the ball. He's going to beat the shite out of the East.

Foley is sitting in McElwain's house with the top guys in the UF athletic department. It is a pretty safe bet that McElwain is named the coach tomorrow.

I think he could turn out to be a pretty good hire, if he is in fact hired.

I'd brace myself if I were you, just in case. If I were in his shoes, I'd take the job in a heartbeat. But I'm not, and there's always the possibility he turns it down for whatever reason.

So if Saban was killed tomorrow in a tragic dwarf tossing mishap, you'd want Bama to hire McElwain?

Wouldn't bother me a bit. Could we do better? Probably. Could McElwain win national championships at Alabama? Absolutely.

Yeah, you hear this all the time, but I can name you 5 SEC coaches right now that wouldn't leave their current job to go to Gainesville. So what good does it do being one of the 5 best jobs...if that's even true...if 5 coaches in your own conference wouldn't take the job?

By the hour, this seems more and more likely. I wouldn't be surprised of an announcement over the next day or two about the hire.

The continuity with DJ Durkin is great and all, but I just hope it's not just a shell of Muschamp's defense.

McElwain does not have South Florida ties, which scares me, but he can gain some at least based on prestige.

At least McElwain has some success as a head coach at a mid-major. Let's see if he can translate this to real college football.

My stab at the 5 coaches not taking fl HC
1. Saban
2. Richt
3. OBC
4. Hugh freeze ( already turned down)
5 les Miles

.. Mullen would jump on it if foley were fired.
