I think given how hard their AD has fricked around with this between last season and the beginning of this one, they're walking the fine line of pulling a Texas.

As in putting all of their eggs in the basket of a coach they can't guarantee will take the job.

USCw and ND may be looking this season too. Both offer easier paths to the playoff. And I think his wife is from California.

He might say yes to LSU, but there are reasons he might say no.

LSU is a phenomenal job but it is squarely in the same division with the best college football coach of all time.

Does cutting Miles early give them an advantage over other potential openings ND/USC/Texas etc?

This is what horn fans said, prior to having to settle for their 5th choice, Charlie Strong.
You don't know what priorities other people have.
Just bc LSU is the center of your universe, doesn't mean the same holds true for others.

Do LSU fans not see that coaching is a brotherhood, and their treatment of Les the last couple of years will play into a coach making a decision about switching jobs, especially if they have an easier job than being in the same division as Bama.

Sure there is. Houston is in the works for a Big 12 bid and he's sitting in arguably one of the hottest talent beds in the US. Never underestimate the ego of a coach who can potential be a legend at a school like Houston.

There will likely also be some major jobs open like Notre Dame at the end of the season. And that's bigger than even LSU.

What's the story on David Cutcliffe? Does no one want him, or has he declared his intention to retire at Duke?

They are going to go after Jimbo, which I don't think is a step up.

Jimbo as he is now against Miles as he is now is a clear step up. I don't care if Louisville put 1000 points up against FSU. He has the 16th ranked scoring offense right now with a redshirt freshman and we have the 110th ranked scoring offense under Miles (and we haven't even started playing our toughest opponents yet). His team scored more points in the 2nd half against Ole Mis than we have in the last two games combined against them.

After the Gators beat LSU in 2 weeks the LSU fans will be fricking nuts city 3 Ls and more to come. I mean 7-5 or 6-6 aint too bad...Liberty Bowl maybe? I think LSU fans need to adjust their target sites and accept being mediocre for a while...Les will turn things around. I promise.

I don't know how old you are but Bama was wandering in the wilderness quite a while before they hired Saban.

it may not happen at LSU this time but it may. and yes, some of our fans will be disappointed if our new coach doesn't come in and win the Natty in year 2 or 3. a segment of our fans want every coach fired at times.

but LSU has a history of giving their guys a fair chance.

No doubt. I am willing to have a losing season with a Chizik type guy in order to exit this purgatory. You have no idea how torturous the Les Miles era has been for those with an IQ over 80. And you have no idea how lucky yall have been.

Is the fanbase ok with some years of struggle till they find their guy? Or is the win now attitude too prevalent.

Seems like it would be difficult to do worse than Miles has in the SEC over the previous 4 years. (~24-16 SEC play... at best)

There are plenty of hires that would be solid. Obvious homeruns in the big names like Herman, Kelly, Fisher, etc. I'd imagine that going forward LSU will be looking for an offensive HC.. Louisiana is loaded with elite athletes and you may as well use them to score points

How much does the Saban thing really factor in though? Herman is probably a confident guy. I doubt he cares where Saban is and who knows when Saban decides to retire.

They are setting themselves up for disappointment because they fired the fat yankee jackass that's been stealing millions from them for years by impersonating a football coach?

ND doesn't get talent like LSU anymore and I don't know if they're firing him following six winning seasons and a pretty high ranking last year. It would probably take another bad season and this year is still young.

They're 1-3 with a loss to Duke and played Alabama in the BCS NCG in 2013.

You're delusional if you think Notre Dame isn't capable of snagging a coach you might want.

I didn't say that couldn't snag him. We all know they made the NC in 2012 due to that weak-arse schedule. ND usually gives their coaches more time to fail than some other schools. Willingham and Weiss had a few years to suck. The SEC is still considered the best and for some coaches, that's a draw. They want to prove they can beat the best.

It's going to be glorious watching these bastards melt when they end up with a mediocre coach that can't build a program up from the ashes
