I hated Spurrier's guts when LSU had to play him every year.
While at Florida, Spurrier was:
11-1 vs LSU with an average score of 35.1 - 12.1
11-1 vs UGS with an average score of 36.3 - 16.6

He interviewed for it
Don't remember that at all.Would love to see the article though.
I know Dick Sheridan (NC State coach) had accepted the job but a few people in our AD couldn't keep their mouth's shut and word leaked out and he reneged on the offer.
Unfortunately Larry Walker and his S. Georgia gang got involved after that and pretty much got Goff the job...who they were pushing all along.

When VD retired Spurrier was at Duke...it was 88-89 I believe. So I can maybe see him interviewing for the UGA job then but I had never heard that before.

I'm quite certain that LSU fans towards saban is far far worse than us towards spurrier.

I'll be the turd on the punch bowl. I fricking hate that old ball sack. I'd love nothing more than to leg sweep his arse and choke him out with his own visor.

I don't remember him interviewing for the job but I do remember him saying he had interest in the job when it opened up. He probably would have left for UF when that job opened up anyways.

I think Spurrier hates Georgia more than they hate him. And that's saying something
UGA All-American Bill Stanfill set the tone for Spurrier's UGA hate...
Spurrier never beat UGA as a player & it galls him to this day...
quote:
A native of Cairo, Ga., Stanfill first put his name on the football map in Georgia’s 27-10 upset of previously unbeaten Florida in 1966. Then a sophomore, Stanfill led the Bulldogs’ all-out rush on UF quarterback Steve Spurrier, sacking him twice and hitting him repeatedly after many of his passes. Though Spurrier went on to win the Heisman Trophy, the memory of Georgia denying the Gators their first SEC title and overcoming a 10-3 halftime deficit still resonates as one of Stanfill’s greatest memories.
“If I wasn’t sacking [Spurrier], I was knocking him down,” said Stanfill, a 35-year resident of Albany, Ga., who retired in 2010 as an agricultural real estate broker. “He just didn’t have time to throw.”
Stanfill was originally supposed to miss the game due to a neck injury he suffered that week in practice. On Friday night, a visit to his hotel room from head coach Vince Dooley triggered a change in plans.
“[Dooley] had the team doctor inject my neck with cortisone,” Stanfill said. “I woke up the next morning and my neck was fine. I played and had a darn good game.”
He’d go on to have another memorable Georgia-Florida game in ‘68, finishing a 51-0 rout of the Gators by Dooley inserting him at quarterback during the final series. Stanfill, a first-round draft pick of the Miami Dolphins, played eight seasons there and was the team’s all-time sack leader (67.5 sacks) until Jason Taylor broke his record in 2003. Stanfill was a five-time Pro Bowl player, but never quite recovered from a neck injury suffered in a 1976 preseason game.

Is Georgia's dislike of Spurrier matched by any other combo in the conference?

The ball sack was crying to the refs every time he was hit and good ole Bill asked him "What's wrong Steve? I step on your dress?"

Stanfill also has a quote about how growing up on the farm when they would castrate the pigs, that noise was what it sounded like every time he sacked spurrier.
