People are down voting because they're just thinking "lol their still ole piss!!!1 saban neva looked like a beever!"

But you actually provided some sound reasoning for it. Could be a start of something big for Freeze. He's only 45, too.

-Saban

SEC title
LSU: 2nd year
Alabama: 3rd year

National championship
LSU: 4th year
BAMA: 3rd year

#1 recruiting class
LSU: 4th year (only bc recruiting services came out his 3rd year)
Bama: 2nd year (and counting basically)

- Freeze

SEC title:
0

National championship:
0

#1 recruiting class:
0

He has some good juniors that he isn't replacing. Let's let him accomplish something besides an occasional top 5 class and a 10 win season before we start the comparison

You asked so I will answer. He currently has a losing record in the SEC. He will never have the kind of success that Saban has had. He might win the SEC or NC this year. He has recruited well, but at Ole Miss, no offense, he will still not recruit at the level that other SEC powers have recruited long term. Now I am not saying that Freeze is not a good coach, he might be better than most maybe even on par with Saban. But he will not win like Saban at Ole Miss, nor would Saban win like Saban at Ole Miss.

Hell no.
Saban is a HOF Coach that may go down as the greatest ever.
What has Freeze done again?

Well he was the head coach at ASU for one year and won 10 games. Then came into a program with no talent, lots of grade and behavior issues and one that was fresh off a 2-10 year. He proceeded to win seven games the next year, eight games the next, nine games the next and has the team in the national title picture early in his fourth year, all while recruiting at a level we've never seen here.

But still, it's not about what he has done, it's about what he can do. Saban spent one year at a lower-tier school (Toledo) and went 9-2. Then at Michigan State in his first three years there he went 19-16-1. Hell, he didn't win his first title until his 10th year in coaching. Freeze may never accomplish what Saban has but he's started his career even better than Saban did.

I don't think that's a fair criticism of Freeze. Saban won the national title in his 10th season as a head coach. Freeze is 37-17 in 4+ and has his team primed to compete this year. It's too soon to crown Freeze, but it's also too soon to discount him.

Saban already had an established name in the coaching community by the time he hit Baton Rouge. He coached a bad arse Cleveland Brown defense under Bellichek. That fact right there makes this a bad comparison.

I seem to be in the minority, doc,but I understand your question. I still have to say no, though.

Ole Miss will be on probation in 3 years anyway.

No way the talent they have WANT to play at Ole Miss under a Confederate Flag and Confederate General unless they are getting PAID!!!

What? The flag has been banned for 18 years, and Col. Reb has been gone for 13. You try to use that against us in recruiting, and it'll backfire on you as soon as that recruit steps foot on campus.

That's not really a fair comparison considering Saban already had six years as an FBS head coach under his belt before LSU.

I'd argue that Freeze is much farther along at this point in his career.

You make an excellent point that it would be harder for anyone (including Saban) to do at Ole Miss what Saban has done at LSU and Bama; but "more difficult" does not mean "impossible" either.

Freeze's first full recruiting class was ranked 9th, then 15th, then 17th, currently (247 Comp). Those rankings IMO don't adequately give credit. Evan Engram was a 3-star with no SEC offers. Freeze beat out Troy State to sign Cody Core from Auburn AL; he has caught 3 TDs in 3 games (including one against Bama). Claim all the recruiting trophies you want, but in only his 4th year Freeze has recruited enough talent to beat any team in the SEC.

Let me ask you a question: If Bama played OSU on Saturday night in Tuscaloosa and lost the turnover battle 5-0, do you think OSU only beats Bama by 6?

Sad excuses

One metric in which Freeze will never catch up to Saban: scapegoating his fanbase for a loss instead of owning up to his own team's lack of preparation.
