Thecaw was right about billy Napier before he coached a game and the uaa had their plants in the media try to discredit the caw!

The Florida Gators massively underperformed last football season, leading to the university firing Dan Mullen. In the offseason, the team hired Billy Napier, then the head coach of the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns, to replace Mullen. Napier’s first game was scheduled for Sept. 3 against the Utah Utes, the seventh-ranked team in the country entering the season.

Even though the season just started, one Florida football fan took to the message boards to declare that they have seen enough from Napier. This user already has a replacement in mind — Urban Meyer.

TheCAW called from the start that Napier sucked but the Disney gators said he was crazy! Who’s crazy now???

What a goof, talking about himself in the 3rd person. "the caw"

And yes, I have nothing against Mike White, but glad he left. He saw the writing on the wall. Golden is going to bring back some of the Gator hoop prowess, that we used to have.

Really?

Florida has gone from .617 to .571 winning % while Georgia has gone from .385 to .500

You're winning less than you were and they're winning more than they were, so there's that.

I guess head to head no longer matters.

Mike's departure was totally mutual. He would have been fired and he knew it.

I'm glad we didn't have to pay a buy out

I don't know much about Florida's new coach, but I was shocked by how much he whined in his press conference after the loss to A&M.

I agree, he probably shouldn't have harped on the calls we didn't get, as that can be the case on the road. I didn't watch the game, but you would have to admit there was a pretty big free throw disparity in the 2nd half of a very close game. 20 free throws to 2?

Sure, but 1) that's one data point: why not quote the free throw ratio for the whole game? and 2) A&M gets to the free throw line a lot; it's what A&M does.

He was even whining about a call where it sure looked like the Florida guy stepped on the line and seemed to have little effect on the game. Why in the world did he even bother to complain about that? And it wasn't just that he was responding to questions about that stuff. Almost any question that was asked, he turned into an occassion to complain about the officiating.

A&M doesn't get to the line as much as Florida does.

I don't think it happened exactly the way you are describing it, but I always want my coach to bitch and piss and moan if he thinks the calls are one sided. it's not that big of a deal imo. The free throws in the first half were Florida 9 to A&M 4. Did you think that evens it out?

It matters, but being realistic also matters.

UGA doesn't put much support into men's basketball, while UF puts quite a bit of effort into the sport. Comparing accomplishments at UGA vs UF in basketball is like comparing Vandy to UF in football. A better coach can lose head to head matchups at Vandy to UF and still be better.

At UGA, if we make the tournament once every 4-5 seasons, we consider our basketball program in a good place. It feels like White will get to that point with how he's building UGA. I don't expect him to do what he did at UF, where he made the tournament in 4 out of 7 seasons and that wasn't considered good enough. If he did get to that same level, he'd be one of the top 5 UGA basketball coaches of all time.

THe bar is low for basketball in Athens for a reason. We just want to be decent.

While I don't know what the current numbers are and perhaps they've changed, in the past UF has spent 2-3 million dollars more in total operating budget for men's basketball in most years than UGA did each year.

But perhaps White is getting the school to change that. It's not like we don't have the money to spend. While fans don't care about sports other than football all that much the football revenue we earn gives us a ton of money that could be used to prop up other sports. Right now we mostly just save it or spend it on football recruiting (our FB recruiting budget is more than we spend on any coach other than Smart).

I could see an Auburn type environment in Athens if Georgia could find some sustained success in shooty hoops. Georgia has loyal fans, and you guys would support basketball if the program became successful, I have no doubt.

UGA supports a lot of other sports programs when they're doing well. We'll show up to see a winning baseball team, basketball team or gymnastics team.

What we don't do is have fan pressure when those programs aren't doing well. Yeah, we showed up when Jim Harrick and Tubby Smith were winning games at UGA. But there's a reason why Dennis Felton and Mark Fox combined to coach 15 years of basketball in Athens. There's no pressure to get guys out who aren't horrid. If they're just "meh", they survive because of that.

I'm not sure he knows who or what the UAA is, but I do find it kind of humorous and don't necessarily disagree with the overall sentiment.

I do think Todd Golden will be Stricklin's exception FWIW. Mike White was ultimately not a good fit, he has a ceiling below UF expectations.
