My expectations is to make the Sweet 16 at least once every three years with the occasional deeper run. Ultimate goal being to win a championship, not just make the tournament.

Well it sure is high delusion if that is the expectation. Arkansas once made the Final Four 3 times in about 6 years. It doesn't mean that that is my expectation for Arkansas basketball

Show me where I mentioned final four?

I did say Sweet 16 3 times a decade. That is much more attainable - so attainable Alabama did it for 30 years across the full or partial tenure of 4 head coaches.

But for what it is worth if you'd managed to sustain that rate of final four appearances for 30 years, then you'd be Kentucky-like and sustaining or returning to that level of success should be your goal.

I think both Howland and Johnson will make our programs respectable again.

Yep. Only Kentucky and Miss St have a better class. Though y'all have twice as many commits as us.

There are a lot of people on TRant, including some Alabama fans, that have this opinion that Alabama has no precedence for expecting good basketball that can push the sweet 16. They are wrong.. Once Avery starts winning big in the next year, and you have to deal with our usual football dominance, it will be satisfying to watch people choke on their hatred for half the calander year. Too bad baseball can't step up.

Similar to how the composite team rankings work for football, only taking into account the top 20 commits, I think basketball only values the top 3. So the number of commits doesn't weigh as heavily as one might think.

With a new BB field, I would think that the pressure is on our BB coach to step it up this year.

As far as CAJ, he needs to watch some old tapes of Whimp snatching off that plaid sports coat and throwing it on our bench.
It put the refs in their place and fired up the fans. A sight to see.
And I would be surprised if a new Basket ball Taj Mahal wasn't announced this summer or next.

I know. I just assume they're all young and have no idea that Alabama trails only UK in SEC Tourney championships and only UK and LSU in SEC in regular season titles.

As the season stands right now, Bama is 2 wins behind Arkansas for second in the conference (again, behind UK) in all time wins. At the end of last season, the hogs were 33rd and Bama 34th in the NCAA for total program wins.

Bama's never made a final four but they've historically been a very solid, winning program.

You mentioned one of the best stretches in school history and suggested it should be the expectation. I showed the best stretch in another school's history as a way to explain that expecting the best in school history all the time is delusional.

What are your expectations for your program? Bama's would be the same.

Yours was a 5-year stretch and his was multiple decades. Learn to think.

I listed the results over a 30 year period spanning 4 head coaches. If that can't be considered a fair sampling of a program's overall historic performance then please define it for me.

His name will draw interest from recruits, but the product on the court will have to help sell the message.

This is true and the proof is in the pudding with what he's been able to get his players to do this year.

His team has better chemistry than Grant's and the playcalling and game strategy is better as well.

There is still a lot of work to be done, but this team has overachieved in the midst of our plague of injuries.

Three decades of history with 4 different head coaches kind of proves what the expectation should be doesn't it?

Makes me sad that Kentucky gets this many every year.

Kinda like Bama in Football getting tons of big time stars every year. Building a program to compete yearly takes time. I think Avery will win and be competitive with bama.

it's gotten to the point that a Birmingham five star might legitimately consider Alabama.... before signing with Kentucky
