I think it is pretty arrogant to think aTm can't compete in the SEC. They had a bad decade but it is kinda like saying Tennessee can't compete in the SEC or Bama after Shula couldn't compete in the SEC.

The Ags have great recruiting in Texas. They have a talented roster.

If you're asking whether the Ags will compete at this point, then you're really looking at if Kevin Sumlin will be a successful coach moving from Conference USA to the toughest division (of the toughest conference) in college football. I'll be interested to see how his defenses do now that he'll have a big time staff and more talent.

At this point I think Sumlin might be similar to Petrino with better recruiting ground. He's an offensive wizard. He should be able to get more defensive talent in the state of Texas than Arkansas has in-state.

It is hard to see them beating Alabama and LSU at this point, however Arkansas is now in coach limbo, Ole Miss/Miss State aren't that scary, and Auburn didn't look very good last year. I could see them getting as high as 3rd in the SEC in 2 to 3 years. For them to jump Bama or LSU, Sumlin would have to be a stud in recruiting and on the field or LSU/Bama would be changing coaches.

False. Texas A&M in the best ever was a Mississippi State. They have never really been worth a shite.

Think about this, TExas' big rivalry is Oklahoma not A&M, because they suck

I keep seeing this and then I remember that A&M has ALWAYS been in Texas since the beginning of their history, and yet I can never seem to recall them being a factor in the Big 12. Now they're moving to a much better conference and we're supposed to expect them to compete? That's not being fair to A&M.

They were pretty quiet under Mackovic though.

We will agree to disagree there. Kids with talent want to play in the SEC, not the BigXII-2+1.5.

But they were a factor in the SWC which had a lot of the same teams. They won the SWC 6 times between '85 and '93. They won their division of the Big 12 in '97. They won the Big 12 in '98. They got a share of their division in 2010. They had 4 ten win seasons in the 90's.

They've had bad coaching for a decade and it really hurt their program. Someone like coach Fran can set you back. You can recruit talent to College Station though.

84-94 we beat tu, 10 out of 11, while tu/OU went 5-5-1. If you lived in Texas at the time, you wouldn't make any such claim, since it would just be comical. At that time, the instate rivalry was the most significant as we were playing for Cotton Bowl bids and SWC titles, and the fact that we were wiping the floor with them didn't mean we stopped being their rivals and favored LSU instead.

But you're right about this, tu's big rivalry is now OU, since they are too scared to play us. O well.

If this happens then Sumlin must be a helluva coach, I don't see them being on the same level as bama and LSU though

I can see the SEC restructuring within the next couple years to either add another 2 teams and redoing the divisions or just redoing the divisions.

As it is, I think that A&M has a real opportunity of getting as many SEC West wins as MSU has gotten in the past few years combined.

It just depends on Sumlin.

We get kids. We always do. We've had shite coaching the last 10 years. One could surmise without taking a giant, presumptuous leap that we finally hired someone who can figure out how to translate our natural advatages to the field. Really isn't that hard considering it starts and ends with recruiting. That's most the battle won for you, chief.

Still have to balance that with the fact that Auburn, Bama, and LSU all routinely finish in the top 15 in recruiting -- if not top 10. The division is so damn competitive.

In Jerry World. Thankfully the next two are in College Station and piggieland, both places where Aggie has scoreboard.

Now that you don't have Petrino -- who in all fairness is a fantastic coach -- you just have a roster full of players no one else wanted (and spare me the few exceptions) and some dude for interim.

Consider that with the fact that you beat A&M by 11 total points the last two years, and I'd say we wont be seeing posts like yours much longer.

Well A&M just had their first, 1st round offensive player drafted since 1994. Unless that talent improves- No- they won't win the title soon.

Scared! Hell we're glad to get rid of you. A&M is more of a nuisance than anything else to Texas. shite, Texas can whip A&M (and their 1st round QB) at Kyle with a QB who should be on the scout team at San Angelo St. But keep going back to the 80's. Better yet go all the way back to 1939.
