I'll be attending the msu-uga game next weekend. I've never been to Athens but hear it's great.
What are some places to eat I should check out?
Best bars to go to?

Just park downtown and walk around. There are dozens of bars and restaurants to choose from.

Requisite preliminary questions:
What do you like to eat? What's your preferred age group/scene?
Athens has something for everyone. Also depends on your timeframe that you'll be in town and when kickoff is set.

This is the correct answer.

Those Georgia peaches of course.

Georgia's bar scene is the best in the conference

Better wear a poncho. I hear they like to spit a lot.

I mean it's not the wrong thing to do but UGA's campus is large and it's downtown selection is pretty dense. Even for locals and alumns, it's best to start with a primary destination and let things evolve from there

Restaurants depends on where you want to go.
Downtown:
Last Resort (get the salmon)
Trappeze (Pub food, but really good)
Ted's Most Best (pizza is top notch)
DePalmas (Italian)
Clocked (Best burgers in Athens)
If you want to venture out a little:
Heirloom (little nicer than the others)
Mama's Boy (brunch and breakfast)
There are several others...great eating town.
Go by Creature Comforts Brewery and take a tour.

Steak/seafood/Italian/BBQ
I'm 26 and single and my good friend who is going is also 26 and single. So really age 21-30 is fine. I don't really like the club/dj scene I prefer a good bar with live music

I'll be there Friday afternoon through lunch Sunday. Leaving here Thursday evening and staying at my parents place in Tuscaloosa that night then heading to Athens around lunch Friday

Bars on the East side of Lumpkin Street are younger and rowdier. Bars West of Lumpkin are slightly more mature.
Georgia Theater rooftop is great but will get crowded and uncomfortable.
The Creature Comforts brewery is downtown as well, very popular.
Parking is going to be your problem.

I'm not staying downtown. I'm at microtel by wydham which is right off the interstate I believe. The rooms left downtown were outrageously priced 300-500 a night.
As far as parking goes I'll likely just take a cab or uber. Usually much easier when I'm in unfamiliar territory

For downtown restaurants, I'd probably recommend The Place (Southern), Seabear Oyster Bar, DePalmas (Italian). I'd also recommend looking into Clocked (Burgers) and Trappeze (beer selection and myriad of food options).

Georgia Theater rooftop or Allgoods on Clayton are probably good starting points. Would also recommend Magnolias on Broad. Clayton Street west of College Ave is home to a lot of the greek-centric bars (General Beauregards, Pauleys) while Wahsington St from Hull Street west is more your hipster crowd (Flickr, Manhattan, Little Kings, etc)

Not a bad location....you are probably 5 minutes from downtown.

Would also echo Creature Comforts if you can be downtown during their operating hours. Good scene, usually a decent band, good beer. Easily walkable to everything downtown

Definitely take an uber from there; no use worrying about parking and driving ATL highway downtown
