Alot of great suggestions here. If I only had to go to two restaurants in Athens, it would probably be Ted's Most Best for the pizza and Clocked for the burgers. If you're into breakfast, definitely check out Mama's Boy on Oak Street and Poplar, but if you go Saturday morning, you may have to wait a while for a table.

Honestly, Mama's Boy is good but it's going the way of Last Resort: I send out of town folks there because it's solid and reliable but I rarely ever go there myself.

Maybe it's because I prefer a country breakfast but I'd sooner go to Mayflower or Stricklands if I'm not making breakfast at home. Doesn't help, either, that trying to find parking at Mama's Boy is total hell

Mayflower breakfast for sure. Old timey country breakfast.... cash only.

Last Resort has good fancy breakfast. Eggs benedict etc, white tablecloth. Lots of eye candy, it's a favorite among sorority girl brunches.

I don't understand why people stand in line for 40 minutes for a chicken biscuit at Mama's boy.

Teds Most Best is where me and Kirby take our families. It's normally thought of as a family place with a big sandbox and kids running around, but on game days its a mixed bag of people.

If you want better pizza in a more bar- like atmosphere eat at Transmetrolitan, Italian food is good and upstairs is more bar like.

Clocked I just can't recommend. I've never gotten my order in less than an hour, even when they aren't busy. If I were black I would assume they were racist it's that slow. My sister in law used to work there and she won't eat there, take that for what it's worth. All that being said, it is very popular and has lasted longer than most Athens restaurants so they are doing something right.

I think the burger at The Globe two blocks away are just as good. The burger at Trapeze isn't bad either.

Ron White and Drivin N Cryin are in town Friday night (different venues). I didn't know the band was still around. That's some pretty good SEC flavored entertainment.

Would endorse both Teds Most Best and TransMet.

Teds is a good place to spend some time when the weather is nice and you just want to chill. Good before or after a visit to Creature Comforts. Pizza comes in one personal size and is woodifre, thin crust in style. No TVs so not my ideal gameday spot.

Transmet is the more traditional thick crust. Upstairs bar is solid, good place to chill with numerous TVs around

Is that downtown? Looking for a good breakfast spot for Saturday morning. I'm staying downtown and would prefer not to drive. Thanks.

How easy is it to bar hop there? For example in Starkville bars in the district don't charge covers so it's easy while Oxford on gameday it's more difficult unless you have a couple hundred extra dollars to pay all the outrageous cover charges to get in the bars, or you go in the middle of the day and get a bunch of wristbands before they start charging cover

Bars don't charge covers, just need an ID. Almost expected to bar hop

If want to get off the beaten path a little try Old Pal, Normal Bar and Hi-Lo - all close to each other on Prince St. Adult/young adult scene.
Also, I don't think anyone mentioned Cali n'Titos or Seabear. Former is a Latin-food staple latter is an oyster bar with a great menu. Enjoy Athens.

Transmet has the Hungry Sasquatch if I remember correctly, a true man's pizza.

Used to get a slice of sasquatch at least once a week when I was in college. Good hangover pizza

I threw out Seabear but Cali N'Titos is another great suggestion. Problem is it's relatively isolated from downtown. Still, if you've got time and are willing to hang out around the 5 Points neighborhood (there's also Royal Peasant and Grindhouse down there) it's a great spot to post up (just make sure to BYOB; 5 Points bottle shop is just around the corner and has an impeccable beer selection)

Parthenon, etc. are way overrated. Just get on a boat to Mykonos and settle in with your kind.
