It could be made equitable with the rotation.
Like that's worked so well in the past.

Uh, it has.
This place is an insane echo chamber. In reality, the schedules have been fairly even. Where has a problem arisen in the real world?

So for all of the "let's play 9 games" folks, please explain how you would deal with all the bitching and moaning that would happen when your team has 5 hard away games and your rival has 5 home games...
The Pac 12 has been playing 9 games since 2006.
The only complaints are that other conferences like the ACC and SEC haven't followed suit.

Should I have said Mississippi State? Oops.

Which is what Miles and Alleva have argued for (more rotation) while slamming the door shut on a 9th game.
I'm not one to take up for Saban on much of anything but he is the only one I know of in the SEC saying just play a 9th game already.

Saban said last Friday he would love an NFL type setup. Put the midmajors in a separate division. Only play Power 5 teams and conference winners + wildcard go. We'd have a lot more 2-loss champions, but things would be more fair and we wouldn't have to compare schedules and shite.

The entire East division gets 5 home games in Year A, and the West gets 5 home games in year B. This really isn't that hard.

Swap Mizzou and Auburn and go to 9 game schedule with 1 permanent opponent
West - East
Alabama-Auburn
LSU - Georgia
A&M - USCe
Mizzou- UF
Ark - Tenn
OM - Vandy
MSU - UK
Still get iron bowl, AU and UGA, UF-Tenn, UGA-UF, and trade the non existent UT-Bama with LSU-Georgia, Ark-Tenn, and A&M-Mizzou.

UT-Bama is not going away.
It wasn't nonexistent when they won seven straight. It wasn't nonexistent during Rocky Block. It wasn't nonexistent when they had a fourth quarter lead a few weeks ago.
It's one the SEC's Big Five protected rivalries. You don't understand it because you're not part of it, and that's Ok. Just understand it's never going away

Why wouldn't you just leave LSU-UF as is?
Oh wait, now I remember: that's what this has always been about.

TSIO runs this conference. I don't know why that is so hard for you to understand.

How about 13 conference games in a round robin, no need for a Champ game, no cupcakes, SEC champ has a guaranteed playoff spot?
this would be awesome

I've been having similar thoughts quite a bit lately.
It would make a lot more sense.
Sure, it would suck for the directional schools who depend on the rent-a-win paycheck but it would be a lot more fair playing field and the fans would love it -- especially season ticket holders who now get left holding the bag on 2 to 3 craptastic home games each year.
That said, Memphis and Toledo wouldn't be very happy about that.
I think, for now, the best we can hope for is a 6 team playoff (top 2 teams get a bye) and Power 5 conferences following the B1G's lead by scrapping the FCS games.
But I would definitely like to see more Power 5 OOC games.

The eight team playoff is inevitable. Schools will then be forced to play nine conference games and an eleven game schedule, dropping two meaningless cupcake games and gaining a conference game in the process.

I might be able to get down with that.
I would add this. If forced to go to a 9 game conference schedule, 1 of the games should be a neutral site game, a la the WLOCP.

What? There will be bitching and moaning about schedules? Whatever will we do?
