Not interested in local weather coverage. Only interested in their big storm coverage.

it probably is. but for the life of me i cant figure out the play here.

because consumers will just say ok frick it im out and switch now. they wont wait. who exactly is this "posturing" directed at and what do they hope to accomplish. that's my question.

consumers have other options, directv really has zero leverage with consumers.

Have AT&T Uverse.

But DirectTV and Comcast are dumb if they don't end up carrying it.

If anyone wants to switch to Uverse, hit me up and We'll both profit on gift cards.

DirecTV has yet to agree to carry the Pac12 Network, or the Longhorn Network.

If it were another carrier that said this, I'd say posturing. But given DirecTV's refusal to carry the other networks, this seems more of a position statement than posturing, to me anyway

they can get away with it with those packages, not the sec network. so i dont really consider their actions towards those networks to necessarily be indicative of the stance they will take with the sec network.

I talked to DirectTV yesterday about other issues & asked them about the SEC Network, guy told me they are working out a deal but nothing will get done until right before they launch. FWIW

which is precisely why sending out this email at this point is beyond stupid imo. Because consumers will get that email and bolt the next day. It really makes no sense to me.

Not really sure how relevant this is. Tons of cable providers aren't carrying either of those networks. They aren't moving the needle. DTV carries BTN and has almost from the beginning. SECN will likely have greater demand than that and has far greater leverage (Disney property).

Don't they claim to be the undisputed leader in sports programming. I don't have them anymore because I dropped them so I could get a sports station(CST)

Then what do you consider their action of emailing folks interested in the SECN, that they have no plans to carry it?

That's what I figured would happen

My guess is they are trying to force the SECN's hand and lower the price because while the SECN is important to get it also goes both ways. DTV has a huge swatch of customers that the SECN wants and not every SEC fan is going to switch from DTV either because they are locked in to a contract, not willing to switch for other reasons, want Sunday Tkt or etc.

They did this with Viacom and they have a shitload of channels and they went ahead and removed the channels for a few weeks. Sure, sucked for the consumer but they and viacom got a deal done and DTV didn't really suffer

DirecTV is not going to fire a warning shot so blatantly, at least without some sort of retention program tied to it.

I expect this is either a way to

A. Set the expectations that negotiations may take a while (like we miss a season).

B. Judge interest levels for negotiations via feedback.

I don't think Direct will ever carry SECNetwork.
Also think a cable company or two will not.

The casual SEC fan will still be watching SEC and other football/basketball on ESPN, CBS, etc..

Not concerned. Have no cable, no sat.... never miss a show, movie or sporting event.
