A lot of cities have rivers. Ours is next to the stadium and campus.

Columbia is a couple of hours from the mountains, right up I-26. Same mountains as Knoxville.

UT is minutes from those mountains

UT has a bigger stadium, not better facilities.

Completely false, UT has among the best in the country. USCe may have good ones, but ours are better.

quote:

UT better history? Duh. Yeah. Although most recruits don't remember UT having a better history ... they were two years old the last time UT was that good

That's the thing about history. it happened in the past. And I bet those recruits remember 21-23 last year amirite?

Yea I don't really see much of a choice between Tennessee and South Carolina.

Spurrier has done wonders at Carolina, the biggest of which is getting people to actually give the program money to get towards the same level of other SEC programs (and I'm talking State and Kentucky levels), but that is nowhere near Tennessee.

We keep hearing Tennessee will be back and that things are cyclical.

When? It's almost been a decade. Tennessee fans have been saying this since before people started saying Spurrier was going to retire.

I think it's pretty clear they will be competitive again (as in winning 8-9 games a year) in the next few years.

I think it's a lot more difficult to take that next step, but we will see.

However, both Devaun Swafford and Malik Foreman at Tennessee are DB guys. Sounds like Foreman had high expectations and hasn't really done much. Swafford seems to have exceeded expectations, but I'm not sure he's much more than a special teams player.

Swafford was outstanding on special teams last year. He made some really great plays. Foreman is coming along but I think he's got more development to do whereas Swafford's speed and really his ball instincts have gotten him more field time sooner. It's funny but we took Swafford as a gray shirt with the intention of giving him a scholarship for the next recruiting cycle but he was so good in camp that he walked-on immediately - so here was a walk-on last year just eating up special teams. He's on scholarship now.

Swafford was the one who returned the blocked punt for a TD during last year's game against UGA.

But yeah, I think DB being too far out of the media zone hurts its players, although camps are starting to change that. A player can go to a camp and prove himself against guys who play against higher rated competition.

On the bright side for Tennessee, players can get an early start to their holiday break.

Yep - but in addition the talent level had really dropped off. I don't know if it is better in the last few classes, but they had serious issues in a certain part of town that all but shut down a lot of kids that used to be big contributors from playing. They had some really bad seasons (for them, relatively, playing in East TN) the last few years but seem to be better this year.

Yea - it has to be troubling if you are a USCe fan to know that this is the greatest period in program history and you've only won 1 division title, 0 BCS games and 0 SEC Titles.

The upside is the job has become much better and stable, and Spurrier has started the money train with boosters. So, when he leaves, you should be able to hire a pretty solid replacement.

Id rather go through what South Carolina is going through right now than whatever Tennessee is going through right now.

But that's just me.

Not really. Do we want more than we have? Of course, but if you think this period has been troubling to SC fans then you are an idiot.

I mean we finished 4th last year and beat 2 teams that won BCS games. The system is shite and that is why we don't use it anymore. The BCS bowl jab is fricking stupid.

I'd rather have won something of relevance and have the chance to do it again in the near future, but that's just me.

Sc fans calling us irrelevant for the past decade. At least we have a division title within the last decade, if were irrelevant than what are y'all?

It's just a different level of expectations.
