If rematches are supposedly unfair...

then why bother having the SEC Championship if it is a rematch of a regular season game? We all know the real answer is to squeeze every last dollar the SEC can out of TV and fan bases but it seems rather amusing by those opposed to a rematch to say the 2nd best team in the country shouldn't play in the BCS because they lost to the #1 team during the season and are from the same conference so therefore Bama shouldn't get a shot at the BCS. It may seem unfair to LSU since they already beat Bama but if Alabama is really the 2nd best team in the country then how is it fair to Bama to deny them a ticket to the game?
Since 1999 5 SEC Championship games have been a rematch of a regular season game. In all 5 rematches the team that won in the regular season won again in the rematch. Still the winning team had to go out and win again against the team they had already beaten in order to secure an SEC championship.
Personally I believe it really doesn't matter who LSU plays. I don't see anyone beating them. They could play OSU and Bama back to back in the same night and beat both of them. LSU is that good and the scary thing is they are a young team. Wouldn't be surprised to see back to back to back BCS titles for the tigers.

2001 SEC Championship says otherwise

I think there is a difference between conference champs and national champs.

The format for the championship game is laid out in the SEC rules whereas what we have now is totally subjective. Not necessarily unfair but subjective.

I agree, but this is like the second SEC title game. How many SEC teams do you have to beat?? Does the regular season, and SEC Championship mean anything? Really?

We didn't play a rematch this year. So I stopped reading there.

I just thought everybody or anybody in bammers way had to keep playing them until they win .....and then it counts

Only losers want a rematch.

I dont know brah I think its just a shitty thing to do. LSU deserves better and the rest of the country deserves better. But lets by all means accomodate bama at everyone elses expense. I know this I would hate to be in bamas shoes come jan 9.

Worked out well a few years ago for the Super Bowl Champion Giants!
Dont remeber any Auburn fans crying about that.

The difference is it's a conference championship, which is bound to have rematches, not a national championship of which more than one conference is expected to play in.

Ah so thats why you want to play a team that just lost a 6 and 6 iowa state team!

The only way to avoid rematches is to not have teams from each side of the SEC play during the season. That way when the Conference Championship comes around, you truly have a best vs best matchup. With the new realignment coming (adding Mizzou and aTm) things will get shaken up a bit I'm sure, but not to the extent that we don't have teams from the Best...I mean...West, playing teams from the Least...I mean...East.
It was just a unique situation (not totally unique, but you get my drift) this year with Bama and LSU being head and shoulders better than the rest. We didn't have that one heartbreaking loss (I'm looking at you Bama) that derails our chances to make it to the MNC.
That being said, search my post history and you'll see that I've said all along I want Bama in NOLA because the only thing better than beating yall once is doing it TWICE in the same season.

Comparing a national championship to conference championship setup = complete retard.

In 1959 LSU had to rematch with a superior Ole Miss team they beat 7-3 on the Cannon run. Ole Miss beat LSU 21-0 in the Sugar Bowl.

Thing is you were not in the SECCG for a rematch because you had already been eliminated by LSU. See Bama didn't win their divison, thus you were not in the game.
The only way a rematch happens in the SECCG is if
both division winners had played in the regular season......

Giants EARNED their rematch by winning their division and conference.
