I was on here in 2010 when Ole Miss posters were posting the Mullen to Miami, Florida, etc. rumors. It goes both ways. Once Mullen went 6-6 you didn't care but when we were finishing #15 and 9-4 the tune was a bit different.

fricking this. It's quite comical how the roles are reversed and now 2/3 years later the OM fans acting like it's Ludacris that Freze would up and leave them for a top 3 overall job in the country.

I've seen this argument a lot and don't really get it. I mean I get people love money and blah blah blah

BUT how much money could Texas offer him? How much money could Ole Miss offer him? What's the cost of living in Austin compared to Oxford? What about school systems? Public or private school? There are other expenses I'm leaving out but would the difference in Ole Miss and Texas' salaries really be worth it?

I know we can't match Texas in the max number but we could offer a very reasonable price ourselves, if it was needed.

Also, he's a hometown guy, family, connections and etc. So its really a moot point.

Plus he hasn't done anything great yet. He doesn't warrant an offer from Texas yet. They will want a splash/homerun hire. Not some 2nd year coach from Ole Miss.

Make no mistake, money is not an issue for Texas. COL is a little more but not much. Schools in Austin where he would live are as good as any public schools in the country.

If they want Freeze they can and will make a ridiculous offer for him. They get off on overpaying actually.

I'm sure they could pay $6M without blinking

They're not though. The only coach they're going to offer something like that is Saban

I've already stated that freeze would leave, cut the two situations are much different. Mullins is from the arctic and I seriously doubt ever even knew that State existed when he grew up...

State fans acting like it would be a done deal if Texas came after him is ludicrous. People have turned down major programs to stay at smaller programs for less money many times before.

Why would Texas want Freeze? They don't need a coach who can recruit. Texas needs a coach who can coach.

THIS...fricking THIS!! Not sayin he's not a solid coach but any prospective coach's value as a recruiter should
definitely be 2nd to their actual coaching credentials.

I agree. As lazy a recruiter as Mack has been the last 5 or so years, they've still brought in a ton of talent. Just need someone to coach it.

*cough*Petersen*Cough*

but...

Let's not say Freeze can't coach. He just doesn't have the credentials that a school like Texas will be looking for.

He's pretty damn salty but unless Freeze wins multiple BCS games, he's not getting an offer from Texas.

Texas doesn't much care for being sensible. They probably want to pay their coach more then anyone else, even if he doesn't deserve it. It's just their way of saying "frick you! We do it because we can."

No disrespect meant to Freeze, who has been very impressive as a head coach, but I just think he's too unproven. I don't necessarily believe that Texas will try to hire a huge name, like Saban, but I'll be surprised if they go with anyone who hasn't been a head coach for more then 5 years, with the exception of Muschamp.

They could go after Muschamp if Gators have a good year.

Maybe it's just me, but my impression of Texas is that they take more pride in being the wealthiest, most powerful, program, then they do in winning national titles. Think about that for a second. While every other football power is doing everything it can to win another national title, I think that's second on the list of priorities for Texas.
