Exactly what I was talking about. The gap is closing from the big boys to the middle every year. More schools have the money to compete. Yes, they aren't Alabama, LSU, or Florida but they are getting the kind of money to keep up. The gap just isn't as wide anymore.
Hell it's happening in the Sun Belt too. Much less money, but that is a conference on the rise. They can take partial qualifiers and reside in the SE.

I can't wrap my head around the fact that some people actually believe Ole Miss or Miss. State for that matter somehow "cannot ever" achieve the greatness that Alabama or LSU has achieved. It literally makes zero sense. Every program started somewhere and yes it can take decades for the right pieces to fall in place, but it is very, very possible. Everything that rises will fall in rankings. Look at Oregon for christ's sake I lived in Eugene when I was a kid the Ducks were NOTHING, absolutely nothing, and now look at them. It just takes the right dominoes to fall into place, then you win.

It's going to be interesting to see. But it is still a long row to hoe when you play in a division that has won five of the previous six MNCs. Not saying it can't happen, but it won't be overnight.
Love it... We got a land grant here!!

it seems like it has been. bama has no problems getting kids like lacy in but both ole miss and state have had trouble keeping types like him around. Powe is the exception. Once saban gives freeze the secret to getting kids eligible its completely over for the rest of the sec.

David Saunders gave that "secret" to both State and OM. We haven't had much trouble getting kids in lately. When was the last time either school had a "priority" not make it in?
The difference between Saban and Freeze/Mullen is that Saban doesn't take the flyers on the grade risks -- he has enough other guys on the board at approx the same level that he just moves on to them.
The ascension of the SEC is helping both of us recruit better than we thought possible out of state as well. May not show in either of our classes just yet, but it will in February...

I would hate to see how you Miss people would respond if you actually had a good season. Winning 7 or 8 games seems to be all it takes to send you into hysterics.

It hasn't been as widespread as you think. Of course there are grade problems, but it's not as bad as you think.

My thoughts exactly, no one is saying that Ole Miss or State is going to become "Bama" overnight but the gumps act like they've won a national championship every year for the last 100 years and that to even fathom anyone else even winning a football is ludicrous. We'll see about that.

The beauty of this whole thing is that the MS talent pool is the deepest it's been since 2009 in the 2014 class. Got enough talent in MS next year to support 2 borderline top 25 classes. Nevermind if we both continue to recruit JUCO and OOS at a fairly high level...

If Mississippi only had one SEC team, we would win the SEC every year.
you'd win every five years or so
MS is still much smaller than Louisiana and LSU is a proverbial big fish in small pond (only major state school in a talent rich state)

As long as Jr stays at SC and doesn't return to MS we won't have to worry about top end LA talent going to MS.

Where did the "Landmass" term come from and why can't I keep up with the hip lingo these days?

During Hurricane Issac, The asshats at The Weather Channel had a radar type graphic map on TV that stretched from NOLA past the Emerald Coastline in Florida. More than one Meterologist referred to the Mississippi Gulf Coast as "the landmass between NOLA and Moblie" pre-Issac landfall.. Social media lit up immediatley joking about it, and so on..
