If Mississippi only had one SEC team, we would win the SEC every year.

I agree, State should drop football, replace with Men's soccer.

Understood, but it's hard to compete when five of the schools in your division are in the top ten or fifteen in athletic revenue on a yearly basis. I've always thought it would be interesting to see what one of the Mississippi schools would do in another conference. I think either school could compete pretty well if playing an ACC like schedule. Not saying either should ever leave the SEC by any stretch or saying it would make sense on any level. It would just be interesting to see how much better, or worse, the Mississippi schools would be regarded nationally as far as football is concerned playing a less daunting schedule, but winning more games.

And yes, I'm in between classes on campus and bored.

Some people in this world would read this statement and give you a good:

The more money pours in with the revenue sharing, and the other schools start to catch up.

This is to be expected. Mississippi is rich in talent, though there is a small population. On top of that two of the most talent rich states per capita are next door in Louisiana and Alabama. There is potential here. Both State and Ole Miss need to show it on the field or Tennessee and Arkansas may start eating into the recruiting ground.

One of the #1 things the Mississippi schools HAVE to do is lock down the in state talent. And over the past year or two it looks as though that is finally starting to happen.

I also think that Freeze is a much better coach than Mullen. I could be proved wrong, but I think Freeze's ceiling at OM is much higher than Mullen's at MSU.

All homerism aside, I think this is easy to see.

This is true -- but don't sell us short. Athletics "revenue" will never fully match up strictly in sheer number potential(seats, fans, etc). But if you look at private university donations for athletics over the past two years, you will see that State/OM are neither down a "tier" in the SEC anymore. We are very competitive in that regard nowadays(~ $35 mil/yr in Rebel and Bulldog Club donations). The facilities are in the pipeline to make us both (more) competitive. If we can both sustain (marginal) on-field success, you will see that financially, we're not NEARLY as limited as we once were...

the landmass is unstoppable. LSU is about to fall off thanks to leslie, auburn is riding the gus bus over the cliff, bama is about to pay for sending us recruits. the only threat to land mass domination is the flagship.

the problem with landmass talent is most of it seems to struggle to get into school

Good post engie I agree. Fan support at State is at an all-time high and Ole Miss' is on its way. Since both programs have done away with the good-ole-boy systems, they are seeing that they can compete and are taking steps to do so.

The universe cannot allow it. We are already at each other's throats fighting for next to last place. If any sort of title was on the line, there would be mass killings all over the state

They end up in JUCO and transfer in. fricking Powe eventually played after inflating two or three recruiting classes. I don't think it as big of a problem as you would think. Mississippi schools are THAT much worse than Louisiana schools.

It's going to be interesting to see. But it is still a long row to hoe when you play in a division that has won five of the previous six MNCs. Not saying it can't happen, but it won't be overnight.
