the gap wasn't that big as evident by the game in Starkville. We had a much better defense for sure.

Absolutely. Hell MSU should have beaten Cam anyways.

This. People forget that MSU was a dropped pick6 away from beating Auburn anyway that season.

What if AU had held onto Cyrus Koundjiro, Brent Calloway, TJ Yeldon, and CJ Moseley?

What then Mr. Let's Play the I Want It All for Me Game?

We would have had a very good chance to win. We had the offensive line and an attacking defense via Mannie Diaz. The perfect storm could have happened

100000% yes.

The 2010 Mississippi State team was actually pretty good that year, finishing in the top-15 nationally.

Outside of Fairely, they had an overall much better defense than that of Auburn, and had an offense with as many weapons.

I think Dan Mullen will eventually be fired at MSU because his offense requires an ELITE QB, and elite speed, both of which consistently, will never come to Starkville.

However, that year for State would have been the perfect storm. The 2010 State defense was very good, and was only beaten handily by Alabama & LSU.

Cam alone won those games against the aforementioned. They would have certainly beaten Arkansas in that overtime game, and Auburn? Ha! They barely beat State WITH Cam New Newton.

In perspective, Auburn with Barrett Trotter at QB that year is what, 8-4? 7-5? They don't beat Alabama, LSU, or Arkansas for sure. They probably don't beat State on the road, or Clemson, or South Carolina.

Cam is seriously, that much of a game changer. Put him on what is probably State's best team in the past 20 years, one that IMO is easily if not better than the surrounding cast Auburn had, and you've got yourself a National Champion.

We probably would have won 2 or 3 natty's in a row, tearing the fabric of space and time in the process.

I love the one game example for a team's talent level.

If that's the case, then looking at the UAB game that year, you were more of a CONF USA type of team. Considering you were losing to them half-way through the 4th quarter. And if it wasn't for 3 UAB turnovers, you probably would have lost.

But what really must eat you up is wondering, what if Urban hadn't ran Cam out of Gainesville?

Huh?

Amirite?

ETA: dammit, Brer beat me to it and I missed it before posting.

Great minds and such.

It was the 2nd game of the season, before coaches knew how to utilize him. AU barely beat USC in the 4th game of the season. What happened in December when they got a rematch?

Florida definitely would've had a good chance with Cam to win a SEC title but I don't know that 2010 team was pretty mediocre. It doesn't really eat me up too much since I've seen Florida win a few SEC championships recently

Auburn had the advantage on the defensive line, whereas Mississippi State had the advantage at linebacker and in the secondary in 2010.

However, on offense, Auburn had the advantage at running back, offensive line, wide receiver, and tight end. Mississippi State didn't have as good of weapons on offense.

I'm not saying its certain that Miss St would have run the table. But if any one player ever could have just walked on to a team and took them to an undefeated season, its probably Cam

Nope. They would have maybe beaten Arkansas and Auburn, but not LSU or Bama. Auburn had a lot of very good players that year, along with a ton of seniors. Bynes, Fairley, Dyer, Ziemba, etc. They had as much to do with Auburn's season as Cam. As porous as that defense was, they always seemed to create a turnover at a key moment to propel themselves to victory.

No national title but I do think the would've won the SECCG, even if they managed to get to the championship game no way in hell they beat oregon

ETA: now that I think about it not sure Bama would've allowed state to win the west, I still think they beat LSU/Arky/Auburn though
