Absolutely this. It doesn't matter where anybody is. I can't understand why everybody is so amped up for tonight and why some people are already getting mad about what they think they'll see. It's October 28th. Who cares.

Is this the consensus among Vols players? Are you a player or are you speaking based on your hate for all things Bama?

I said this on another board:
quote:

Alabama has zero wins over ranked teams.

How come when people want to use the "eye test," they only seem to want to use it for SEC teams?

If a team from the Big 12 or Pac 12 had zero wins over ranked teams, we wouldn't have them anywhere near the top 3.

Is it because of what they've done over the past five seasons? Their brand name? What the conference as a whole has done?

Just wondering. It's always interesting to me. Still seems like if they're gonna base this thing off of strength of schedule and overall resumes, then they should do that evenly across the conferences.

Yes, West Virginia is currently ranked. However, they weren't when Alabama played them, and likely won't be after this weekend.

What is everyone's opinion on this viewpoint?

West Virginia is a solid team. They've shown that.

As to the "ranked" argument, we've had this one from TnM over and over.

Texas A&M was ranked when we played them. West Virginia is ranked now. Whichever way you want to define "beating a ranked team", we have it covered.

If Alabama doesn't have to play by the same rules on the field where do you get off saying they should play by the same rules off the field? HMMMMM?

I agree.

I forgot about that. I thought they were already out.

So yes, Alabama has one win over ranked teams.

I really couldn't care less about the polls right now or who has beaten how many ranked teams because it just doesn't matter. If Alabama wins out they'll add LSU, MSU, and Auburn and very likely an SEC title so they'll be in the playoff. If they don't win out, they won't be in the playoff. All this talk about whether team X should be in right now is just so silly and unnecessary.

I somewhat agree. But you still want to see what the committee values. You want them to be consistent from week to week.

And if they rank teams this week how I think they should at the end of the season, Alabama shouldn't be in the top 3.

That's all I'm saying.

I don't even know if you can get a good sense of what they "value" right now. For starters, there isn't a whole lot separating a lot of these teams right now. Yea Alabama has just one ranked win, but that's more than Notre Dame and the same as almost every other 1-loss team. It's going to be hard to get a read on what they might be "valuing." The biggest thing that they may value that could decide spots in the playoff will be conference champions, and you'll get zero sense of that until the end.

I have Notre Dame like 9th. And Georgia 10th.

Those two teams have done pretty much nothing and beaten pretty much nobody.

I have Alabama 6th. Ole Miss 5th. I think Alabama is better than Ole Miss, but if somehow it came down to those two at the end of the season, the committee would put Ole Miss in because they won head-to-head.

I have Auburn 3rd and TCU 4th. I think those two teams have done the most of the 1-loss teams.

Neither deserves to be in over Oregon tho.

Oregon loses to Arizona at home. Arizona lost to USC at home. USC lost to Boston Collegr, Arizona St., and Utah.

Alabama loses to Ole Miss on the road.

Ole Miss loses to LSU on the road.

I don't disagree with any of your 3-6. But that's kind of my point. Auburn still has to play Ole Miss and Alabama so that'll sort itself out. And I kind of still think Alabama is better than Ole Miss too, but you're right if they're both still in the mix at the end of the year it'll mean they've both won out. So Ole Miss would be the SEC champ and obviously in and Alabama would be first in line if there's a second SEC team. And if one of them loses, they're out. I'm just saying these rankings tonight are irrelevant because it's going to all play itself out. The only "variable" I want to know is how important they think a conference championship, no matter the league, is. And unfortunately that's going to be impossible to know until they release the final 4 teams in December.

I have Oregon 7th.

However, they are getting healthier and should win the rest of their games.

I think they'll get in.

Agree as well. I have a hard time believing 3 spots won't be taken with the SEC champ, FSU, and Oregon. FSU and Oregon obviously have plenty of flaws but I don't think they have anybody on their schedules who can take advantage of them. I suppose I'm a little less confident in Oregon because they don't really play defense at all.

Hope so. Louisville has a great defense, haven't had the offense to go along with it though.

which leaves Michigan St, Notre Dame as the two front runners for the 4th spot. Then we have TCU, Kansas St, or Baylor as teams who may sneak in with some luck.

They are irrelevant. Honestly, I'm not even sure they should be releasing them.

I know you're being sarcastic, but there are plenty of people who agree with that. I'm not one of them because the whole purpose is to create interest and talk, but there's nothing about their standings tonight that will have any impact on the final one.
