Is BB able to recover and stay off the hotseat. There is not another team on his schedule that he has to show improvement over last year than AU. It seems their fans are already in frenzy over trying to show Gus up. If AU runs them out of the stadium in game one, I see some big problems for BB.

Maybe. Despite the Arky bluster, if AU starts blowing them out, I think they'll shrug and settle in to see if they can pick up some progress further along in the season.

I don't think many Arky fans would be shocked if AU steamrolled them, even those who think they've got a chance to make it close.

For the sake of the seat I hope so.

what?

it's the first game of the season, it's not going to make or break bb.

I think it sets a bad tone if it is a true dismantling, simply due to Bert's shite talking aimed at Auburn over the last year. But I wouldn't think it'd have any really impact in and of itself.

Sure...it's just the first game. If he can get even one signature win he won't be on the hot seat...and i'm not sure he would be even if he didn't

I think this point is over-emphasized here and doesn't permeate the whole fanbase.

It certainly isn't going to help. But i don't see bert making the same mistake as mullen was when he was making the auburn game a really big deal that only built the team up for a bigger let down.

With all that said, the guy is still a jackass and seems outclassed in this league, but lets not make more of it than it is.

No, he will not be on the hot seat that fast. Long is going to give him 3-4 years to get it right. If not, then he will be gone.

In all honesty I think Arky can run on Auburn. If they don't turn the ball over I think they can keep it close for 3 quarters.

I think the ghost of Gus (Arkansas native)haunts BBs dreams. There are Ark fans that are still upset that Gus is not their HC. I think the "10 Sec Rule" had just as much to do with Gus, as it did with the HUNH.

Malzahn is going to have to deal with this mindset this year. Totally opposite from last year when they were the underdog trying to slay the giant. It's likely Arkansas will have the same attitude AU had last year. I expect a close game.

I agree. I think AU has the offense to blow Arky out if it is firing on all cylinders, but game one, with a mistake or two, could keep this game interesting until late.

And that should be the only correct answer.

After the A&M Game, what other games were they the underdog trying to slay the giant ? Alabama, maybe.

you don't say...

well i'm definitely not one of those fans that are upset that gus isn't our coach and i'm being 100% honest here- i swear to god i do not know anyone personally that wanted gus as our coach. i realize they exist but i haven't had the misfortune of encountering them.

For this board, the better question is when is Gus going to stop scoring at will? When is he going to put in the 3rd stringers and stop the slaughter?

We're certainly better when playing the underdog, traditionally. We'll see how Gus handles it.

That said, Auburn is so widely considered to be overrated that we're probably severely underrated, so that should help.

The better scenario is if auburn loses big to arky and reclaims it's spot 7th in the west, how quick y'all will turn on gussy poo

The point is, Gus will have to deal with high expectations. There were no such expectations last year. We'll see how he does, dealing with a totally different mindset.
