Marshall wasn't a horrible QB. He was very successful. He wasn't all SEC caliber though and was an undrafted free agent that will probably play DB in the NFL if/when he plays.

However, with all of the hype now, it sounds as though Johnson was the better of the two last year. If you are a head coach, it would seem you play your best players, regardless of the success they had the year before.

Marshall knew the system and worked it to perfection. Like i said before we just about won a NC because of his play. JJ is a much more traditional QB who Gus had the chance to get him reps and keep developing him. There is no reason to sit Marshall. Gus will tool this offense with JJ in mind this year which should be potent.

I was watching Dak slice and dice our defense from the student section, you could just see alleys for miles in that LSU defense from end zone seats lol

Lol..the rant don't like it when an MSU player gets positive media reviews and becomes a high profile guy. But more specifically, I think people knock him because he's not a pure passer. I think pure passers are kinda boring, and I like physical qb's. Dak is great college football player and offers a lot at the qb position.

Dak is a great runner and athlete but I'm not sure he is an elite passer and that's why he isn't the best in my opinion.

Frankly...Dak is an average passer at best. Watch re runs of all of MSU games and watch him throw..he will throw high and behind receivers a lot.

I love his grit and running ability...but he cant pass a lick.

This is absolutely insane. How many passes has even thrown in his career?

quote:

Malzahn loves him and consistently said last year he has the best back up QB in all of college and he could start for 10 SEC teams as a sophomore. Gus just doesn't say those types of things.

A head coach gushed about his current player? Stop the presses! If Gus loved him so much he should have started him. Would Nick have started at 10 SEC schools? Jesus the hype some of yall Aubies are giving him blows anything Cokesiah got off the map.

Who are these "most people" that are saying this and what are they basing it from?

I haven't heard that either. I seriously doubt people are saying that.

Film. With everyone anointing him a pre-season heisman contender, and knowing LSU plays AU early, I took the time to really watch him. It's my opinion, but he is not nearly as accurate as this board or the media has made him out to be. He throws some good balls, which is why I called him inconsistent instead of bad, but there are a lot of throws on his film that will be picks against good coverage. Again, I think he's being annointed because of Gus's track record with QBs more so than his actual arm talent. I don't expect Auburn to be night and day in the air like some are calling for, a lot of yall took Nick Marshall for granted as a passer.

73% career completion percentage and he's "inconsistent at best".

Tim Tebow and Dakota Prescott have literally played in the same offenses in their college careers- a comparision:

Tim Tebow

66.4 completion percentage
9285 yards
88 passing TD's
16 Picks

692/2947 4.3 ypc 57 rushing TD's

Dakota Prescott

60.4 completion percentage
5583 yards
41 TD's
18 Picks

376/1933 5.1 ypc 31 rushing TD's

Prescott needs 3,702 to pass Tebow in passing yards- this one will be close

Prescott needs 1.014 yards rushing to be the all-time leading rusher at QB- he wont get there. His lack of playing time his Freshman year cost him this record

Prescott needs 26 rushing TD's to catch Tebow- he had 20 last year- cant see him getting more than 20-22 this year

Prescott will be just short of Tebow in most of the stats- Mullen's refusal to play him more as a Freshman cost him. But the numbers he will put up cant be denied as outstanding.
