Oh yeah, you could get the time by phone ... I forget the number but it was always listed in the front of the phone book and back then we all knew it by heart. We did the same thing every night in our house. It was a big deal.

The village town I grew up in ... you got a county phone book. And the entire county combined made up a phone book of barely 30 pages, thinner than most magazines.

I cannot remember the last time I used a phone book. These days I speak it into my phone and it finds it and dials it for me. It's total Dick Tracy and Buck Rogers type stuff from when I was a kid.

Technology has spoiled us and basically handicapped us all.

That would have been 979-8463. 979-(TIME) for the 205 area code, at least.

Waste of time. They are puffed up from routing a depleted Tennessee team.

The Gamecocks do have the 11th best defense in the nation. (We won't discuss our offense.)

And I have been taught by some good coaches how to watch a game.

And A&M could conceivably ruin Bama's season. They are a very good football team.

Let me tell you something about Muschamp ball, baw.

What he does is he deliberately runs a very conservatively paced offense to rest his defense and pad the stats.

Then what happens is you come up against an Alabama and they drop 651 yards on you without a problem.

Or an FCS Georgia Southern who doesn't complete a pass the entire goddamn game but still beats you.

You guys are in so much more hurt than you know, top ten defenses don't give up consecutive 500+ yard games. (ECU, 485 to Mississippi State).

This is pure Muschamp Ball, good luck with your four wins this season if you're lucky.

That's what it was through the 80's. Maybe even the 90's but I don't think I've called it in 30 years. You'd call and they'd give you the time and temp. No clue if such a thing still exists.

I had a friend several years back who was a police dispacher. He told me that feeble elderly people would call him every single night to ask for the correct time.

Yeah. The same depleted Tennessee team that took aTm to two overtimes at your house a week earlier.

We've beaten Bama 3 out of the last 5 meetings. Look out now.

Damn, I thought I was old at 56 but if you remember Pat Trammell you gotta be almost 70. I do remember rotary phones and TV before cable.

I saw Joe Namath hurt his knee the first time.
Against The Carolina team in blue and white. The south in zone seats were metal bleachers. I also saw the only two games that Coach Bryant lost in Denny Statum

Tied with Vandy for that honor. And SC owns the tiebreaker, thank you very much...

And how does going 3 and out on every offensive series accomplish that exactly? Seems like it would do the opposite.

The fans aren't the coaching staff and players.

And this is the SEC Rant. I'm sorry if you're actually judging the outlook of this game on threads here.

Believe your mind is playing tricks. It was against North Carolina State.
