I'm for giving Gus another run if he can find a QB, mainly one that can run. I don't trust him with a pocket passer at all.

I agree with the second sentence. I just don't think the first sentence is the ultimate answer for it. Having a running QB doesn't address the deficiency; it just papers over it. We will still have the same issues as long as we don't have a passing game outside of screens and bombs (see our red zone struggles against good teams with Marshall).

Gus has got to incorporate an intermediate passing game into the offense and has to bring in someone that can actually develop a QB. There is no schematic or philosophical reason for us not to be doing those things. We just don't because we aren't good at it. But we will never have consistent success if we are banking on running for 300+ a game and just chucking it deep.

You know, Arkansas folks were all over Frank Broyles arse for making a statement to the effect of 'you have to have a certain type of QB to run that style of offense' when Malzhan was on our staff. Turns out I believe he was right, and I just don't believe you have that QB this year. As far as defense, your style of offense (when it works) does put a lot of stress on your defense, as far as time on the field.

The off season will be huge.

It will start with convincing Young, Adams, Lawson and Coleman to return.

Keep CWM.

Find a QB capable of leading the O he has the ability to coordinate.

I am still in favor of looking at another season. As has been mentioned it has been a perfect storm this year. JJ flopped, Lawson and Hosley hurt, the other injuries (when we played LSU we had 5 probable opening day starters out), back up QB gets injured forcing you to play the QB who flopped...

In spite of all of that we have still been in every game save LSU which shows the players are fighting for it. The young players have been the most exciting thing this season.

Looking at the season as a whole you can't call it quits now. Gus may not be the long term answer, but it would be silly to pull the plug now. If the QB doesn't herp derp we would be 9-1. If the back up QB doesn't get injured we would have 7 wins. If Lawson stays healthy even with the QB issues we would likely have 7 wins. Ce la vie.

The trends against lsu and uga are concerning. Assuming we loose to bama all three would put any coach on the hot seat. In all honesty though the real issues are msu and arkie...Auburn can't afford to loose those games with any regularity.

People who want to compare Gus in 2015 to Chiz in 2011 don't understand football. It isn't even close to the same situation.

- BS.. Auburn has shown they can recruit in the top 10 consistently. That is more than enough to sustain success with a pocket QB. Regardless, you act as if the only way to run a HUNH is to have a running threat at QB. You don't have to run a pro style set to have a pocket passer. AU isn't some small time school looking to overcome huge disadvantages.

- Urban... OK, one example, and even then, I wouldn't coin his starting QB dual threat.

- You love Nick? Great, I think most AU fans do. But no, you're not just going to go out and find a dual threat QB with as much composure and confidence as him. Not to mention the fact he could chunk it 80 yards with a WR that could run up under the not so perfectly placed ball.

- And yes, Sean White is a great pocket passer. It's too bad there is zero intermediate passing game to capitalize on his ability. I don't care what your opinion is quite honestly, I stand by my assessment of White.

- AU does have skill players that are more than capable. The talent is there, but the ability to get the ball in their hands isn't. fricking screen passes every other down does not get them in space. I will agree the WRs have been disappointing, but I think there needs to be a change at WR coach. Trooper, for all his downfalls, was able to take scrubs and turn them into reliable WRs.

Hmmm...The WR's have been dropping passes since 2011. Wouldn't those be Troops boys as well.

Sure, they have been, but the targets were never spread out. It was almost a shock when the QB would throw to a different receiver. Regardless, there was Darvin Adams and Emory Blake, and both were about as reliable as a WR can get. Now, AU has no WR that is reliable.

how much sense would it make to use 2011 as a reference point where Auburn only scored 7 points, I mean gus was on staff right?

But was Pruitt coaching for uga then?

Gus scored 0 offensive points against Pruitt in 2011.

Auburn scored on a fumble recovery for a TD and a kickoff return for a TD.

Gus needs to get super focused on recruiting quarterbacks who can run his system. it doesnt work without a running quarterback...

This is not consistent with his offenses historically. He needs an accurate QB. If that QB can run, then that's icing on the cake.

Bad QB play and horrible play calling is the issue this year, not due to a QB running a zone read or not.

Our starting qb cannot throw to the right team and our WR drop balls they should catch.

I do not think Malzahn suddenly stopped be able to run an offense, bottom line is we are just not that good this year.

Maybe JJ can recover, I doubt it, but I hope so for his sake. Is White the answer, I don't know. I was impressed with him during the Arky game --- but at the same time I was beyond underwhelmed with how our guys dropped passes.

This year, the team has been competitive in all the games they lost except one. Likewise, they have been really closing to losing the ones they won.

Bottom line, if we are going to keep trying to use a pocket passer, we need an OC who is really good with qb's and we need a WR coach.

In hope they get rid of Gus because he's a genius.

But I enjoyed reading a post last week by Undecided that said something like, "I'm tired of so many disappointing seasons, I just want Auburn to be a consistently winning program."

Finally admitting what Aubies do not like to, their program is totally inconsistent and the 80's and mid 2000's were the peak in the terms of consistency.

Where would Boom go? After this year seeing how bad his defense has been and how much better his ex team is , I can't se anyone hiring him away from Auburn. If he is going to leave it needs to be for FSU .

I do not think he goes anywhere either. We are paying him well, and you guys are paying him even more.

Here is where i sit.

Gus has become so scared of failure, that he is failing miserably. He plays everything so conservatively that he doesnt put his players in positions to win. In fact, i can honestly say he does just the opposite. Play calling lost us the Miss St, Arkansas and Georgia games. It almost cost us the Jak St and Kentucky games as well. Hell, even in our win against aTm, we had to kick four FGs because Gus is a fuggin redzone retard.

I mean, lets be honest....How hard is it to call plays when you run the read option 75% of the time with a dynamic running Qb? Its not. Even a high school coach can do it. But actually having a vertical passing game takes skill. Gus aint got it. And dont give me that Tulsa bull shite. At Tulsa he didnt have to be accountable for shitty calls or losses. Now at Auburn he is under the gun each and every weekend. FG Gus is cracking under it

could Gus be fired mid season if 2016 is a complete shite show 5 games in

I guess if we open the season 0-5 losing each game 35-0, then anybody anywhere and everybody everywhere would be fired.
