What's your school? Is it The Citadel? VMI? Virginia Tech? Or North Georgia? Norwich University?

If it isn't one of those, then it isn't a SMC. Do all of those schools equally irritate you because of their "fake" military?

My school is Alabama. I know they aren't an SMC, but they do have an ROTC program. It doesn't really irritate me, but I also have no reason to think of the Citadel, VMI, North Georgia, or Norwich University. I've also never thought of Virginia Tech and made a connection to the military. On the other hand, if you ask anyone about Texas A&M, one of the first things they will probably mention is the ROTC. That's one of my reasons for saying they weren't a good fit.

So other than geography, us being known for a ROTC program makes us a bad fit?

Lol. Most everyone I've met from the Deep South loves the military. You, however, are the exception.

Hoedehoe - so now you claim that without a&m, there would be no SEC network??? Where do you come up with this weird shite? texas? As for what parts of texas or moomoo that don't fit in the Southeast? Google maps, type in southeast United States and point to where your fricking state is. Please secede.

UT has the oldest non-Academy land-grant military program in the country. Our band is older than our football program as it was a part of our military program that predates ROTC. The color guards uniforms which are worn at every home game are a tribute to the University of Tennessee Volunteer Dragoons that fought with both Andrew Jackson in the War of 1812 and more famously in the Mexican-American War.

General Robert Neyland was a Professor of Military Science as well as the coach of our football team. Our very name comes from our long military tradition. The SEC and its member universities have a long established military history - this region sends more soldiers to war than anyone for heaven's sake.

While TAMU developed and maintained more academy like culture than other schools, to say that TAMU's military history makes them less of a fit is simply wrong. They're simply different in their expression of their school's military history and tradition.

Alabama was also a military college back during and before the civil war, but we don't really celebrate it a day still prop it up. A&M is the only one in the SEC that still does.

You're very welcome. UT is very much connected to our military history and of course fighting in the War of 1812 but especially fighting for Texas is how we solidified our name.

Their Corps is certainly a different expression of their military history but I don't see a problem with being different. I mean it's fun to pick on them every now and then for keeping around a vestige of the past but at the same time it's not really all that weird for anyone in the South to celebrate the military. The military is very much ingrained in our overall culture.

So, basically, A&M and Missouri serve as advertising whores sponsored by the SEC. Is this really why we added them?

Did we really need their money that much?

We were doing fine without them.

Texas people showing off their little dick syndrome in this thread. Texas is Mississippi times ten, only with a few major cities to hang their hat on. Otherwise, it's miles upon miles of nothingness with neo-conservatives, inbreds, cowboys and Texas Chain Saw Massacre-looking gas stations with uncaged chickens and goats running around sprinkled in between.

Don't forget about the chupacabras. Keep an eye on the kids and your dog when traveling through Texas.

Poor aggy.

They turned their back on the rest of the state (see the constant running down of Austin, Lubbock and Waco)... and now they have been rejected by the SEC.

Poor little orphan aggy.
