No. Almost all development happens in the offseason. QB's improve on their decision making some during the season from film and just being in the moment, but the majority of their time is spent on prep. Meanwhile the opposing DC has spent a ton of time picking apart every possible way to exploit weaknesses.

Virtually no work on mechanics, timing, expanding the playbook, etc... is done during the season. And the offseason between freshman and sophomore year is when the biggest jumps tend to happen.

I understand what you are saying, but Bama spent entire games against rent-a-win opponents doing nothing but using them as glorified 7 on 7 drills to work on Hurts's passing.

Those teams can't help him get comfortable throwing into coverage.

SOME Bama fans all year told us he was great.

Some others said he wasn't from the start and got a lot of shite for it. Most eventually realized these others were correct. A few held onto their delusion doggedly in the face of all evidence. These evangelicals based their opinions more on what they wanted to be true, rather than what was staring them in the face.

Running Kiffin's schemes and allowing for more of a spread passing game. They reverted to Nick Saban 101 last night and Clemson was able to key on the passing downs. When Bo went down they should have utilized more short passes to spread the defense and substitute the run.

Hard to do that when the defense knows you can't threaten them downfield, at least without a total bust in coverage.

I don't know why so many teams invest in QBs who can't throw the football. If you can't complete a downfield pass, play WR or RB.

It's incredible that Saban would put together another unbelievable Bama team and give the keys to a true freshman qb who is a marginal passer.
They were who they were, and that was a damn good team. They just faced a QB who had the balls to keep playing until the final whistle.

He'll be fine. He gets everyone back on the OL except a talented but lazy LT. He'll have targets to throw to and a stable of running backs. This game wasn't lost by hurts. It was lost with stupid penalties and the defense going prevent in the 2nd quarter after Bama was up 14-0. Watson was rattled, and the defense gave him some space, and he got comfortable.

I'd like to see any other 18 year old on Earth go out there last night and do any better than he did. He led what should have been the championship winning drive. I'm proud of him.

As you should. The kid can lead my team any day of the week. With more experience and another spring practice, he'll be fine.

Saban's fault for not opening up the offense all season and forcing him to develop some.

Anyways, there's no way that dude starts for three more years, IMO

The kid is 18 years old and starts at Alabama. He's far from average.

A lot of Bama fans will not wanna hear this, but while I think Hurts will develop into a very scary QB, he was Bamas weakest link last night. He made up for it late in the game with that run, but any high school QB could have hit OJ on that sideline route.

His down field passing needs work for sure.

I honestly think that Tua will fight Hurts for the starting job next year.

I am also surprised at the lack f push bama got between the tackles. Their interiro Oline is very mediocre this year.

Saban will get it fixed, he always does, but I truly think Clemson was the better overall team yesterday.

An excellent post...I couldn't agree more. You're dead on in regard to Tua. If Hurts can't improve his passing skills, it'll be interesting come fall practice. We'll get a peek this spring.

He seemed to suffer after Scarborough quit on the team.

Interior oline has been highly mediocre despite what some people say and that it what lost the game. Couldn't sustain a drive...
