Not the mariota type some like to say he is but just average. The reason he looked good in the regular season is because he has an elite team around him.

While average, he is probably still at least the 2nd best quarterback in the SEC, behind Bentley.

Bama fans all year told us he was great. I can't believe they are wrong.

He'll be fine. He needs to get comfortable throwing to receivers that aren't wide open.

He isn't average, far from it, he's just at a program that can't utilize the position. Hurts would be the Heisman front runner next year if he had decided to sign with State instead of Bama.

It's incredible that Saban would put together another unbelievable Bama team and give the keys to a true freshman qb who is a marginal passer.

A lot of Bama fans will not wanna hear this, but while I think Hurts will develop into a very scary QB, he was Bamas weakest link last night. He made up for it late in the game with that run, but any high school QB could have hit OJ on that sideline route.

His down field passing needs work for sure.

I honestly think that Tua will fight Hurts for the starting job next year.

I am also surprised at the lack f push bama got between the tackles. Their interiro Oline is very mediocre this year.

Saban will get it fixed, he always does, but I truly think Clemson was the better overall team yesterday.

After seeing what he did for Brandon Harris, if Nick doesnt make Hurt go train under George Whitfield, Bama doesnt win another one with Hurts under center.

Dude, those arm talents aren't even comparable. Hurts is fine, he's just 18 and needs an offseason to polish a few things out.

Not to mention you're talking about the same team who won with Blake Sims playing QB with junior high mechanics making 1/3 field reads.

All of it true. Good take. But, I'll take 14-1 and losing to the best player and most complete team at the very last second.

True Freshman

True but by the Clemson game, he was making his 13th career start. At that point, he's essentially a sophomore in terms of experience and playing time. Plus he got worse as the season went along.

No. Almost all development happens in the offseason. QB's improve on their decision making some during the season from film and just being in the moment, but the majority of their time is spent on prep. Meanwhile the opposing DC has spent a ton of time picking apart every possible way to exploit weaknesses.

Virtually no work on mechanics, timing, expanding the playbook, etc... is done during the season. And the offseason between freshman and sophomore year is when the biggest jumps tend to happen.

In the right offense, Hurts could be scary good.
