In 2011, Texas A&M won more ladies basketball national championships than every other SEC school combined.

If the criteria is academics and athletics, I take it to include not just Tier 1 rankings, Top 10,20 or 50 national academic program or curriculum rankings, research $ and rankings, etc. but ALSO:
Academic performance and graduation rates of all student athletes (ALL sports), student-athlete facilities, and of course, athletic success in all sports (football, baseball, basketball, track & field, volleyball, softball, gymnastics, golf, tennis, soccer, swimming, W BB, lacrosse, etc.)

And within how long? The last year? last three years? Five years?

1. Florida (FB, BB, Base, SB, Gym, T&F, etc.)
2. Texas A&M (FB, BB, Base, T&F, SB, etc.)
3. Louisiana State(FB, Base, Gym, SB, T&F, Soc,Golf)
3T. Georgia (FB, SB, Gym., Golf, Tennis, etc.)
5. Alabama (FB, SB, Gym, Golf)
6. Tennessee (FB, SB, T&F, W BB, etc.)
7. Arkansas (FB, BB, BB, T&F, etc.)
8. South Carolina
9. Ole Miss
10.Auburn
11.Kentucky
12.Vandy
13.Mizzou
14.MSU

Placing Vandy is really tough.

Outside of football, Vanderbilt fields a competitive team in all sports.
I'd rank them #1.

Well according to US News Vandy is a Top 15 University and no other SEC school even got in the top 50 except you beloved gators. They were 47. Just saying. You should elaborate. Are schools punished for not participating in certain sports? If that is the case then the big schools are all at the top and the small schools are all at the bottom. Is it excellence in the one's they do participate in? Are some sports more important than others. Are men's more important than women's sports?

Vanderbillt - Best Baseball
Vanderbilt - Best Women's tennis
Vanderbilt - Best Bowling

National Top 20 in Women's and Men's golf
National Top 20 in Women's Cross Country

Basketball has Top 20 talent, Top 100 performence

They are able to field a football team......

Based on your criteria, State couldn't be last.

Not a bad way to do it for a specific year.

It always amazes me about the details that can be brought up to make these lists even more challenging.

Vanderbilt - Best Women's tennis

UF has far and away the top women's tennis program in the conference. 28 regular season titles to Vandy's 0, not to mention 6 national championships. They are ranked higher this year, but that is very much atypical.

They were ranked higher last year. I'm not saying they have a historically better program, I just state that they have really good sports teams these days.
