I know this might sound like a troll post. However, how many of them care about the education they receive? I'm curious to hear if there is anything on the subject.

Maurice Smith cared enough to graduate with eligibility remaining.

I worked for an academic advisor at lsu and you wouldnt be surprised at what most of the athletes take while at the school. Its all bullshite classes where its an easy A(for good students) and attendance isnt required.

Its sad because 99% of them arent going to be a professional athlete and they waste their time at the school beyond the team they play for.

Probably a higher percentage than the actual student body, however the ones that dont take it seriously give much less effort than their student body counter parts

It would depend on the individual athlete. Too many students in general do not take college seriously enough. Nationally, only 60% actually graduate. Plenty of those graduates leave with a largely worthless degree, substance abuse issues, and student loan debt.

are we talking about the athletes or just a regular student?

The NCAA's argument ignores the fact that some degrees are worth far more than others. Athletes are routinely clustered into majors that don't set them up to succeed later in life, mainly because those majors are easy enough for athletes to focus on their sport.

They also have access to tutors and preferential class scheduling. Fact of the matter is, most of these athletes that struggle to handle academics while also participating in a sport, probably wouldn't have gone to college in the first place if not for their athletic ability.

This. It isn't an 'athletes issue' it's a football and men's basketball issue.

Very few do. Most if these guys wouldn't have even got a denial letter back from schools. Because of football and only football or basketball are they even allowed on the grounds. I went to jacksonville st. And I thought it was hard. I was there in the early 90s and my girlfriends roommate was a tutor and the jsu qb was assigned to her. This was about the dumbest sumbitch I ever saw in my life. He asked once how to spell amen and I am not making that up.
I remember the DAY after the last regular season game in mid November he packed and left school. Unfortunately his story was not a rare one. There is no way, no way this guy passed enough hours to stay eligible on his own.

Alright, this isn't a troll, and maybe someone with more knowledge can clarify, but it's my understanding that at least one SEC school has moved football players to taking as many (if not all) classes online so they can be more available to the "programs" needs. That coupled with tutors, counsellors, etc... has really "helped" the student athlete.

They don't take classes seriously. Because they incorrectly think that they'll all make it to the NFL. Which isn't the case for the vast majority of CFB players.

They often major in criminal justice or something even more useless like African American studies.

Every school pulls off that kind of shite where they move students to online classes. And basically hire "tutors" to do the work for them. If it's not the "tutors" doing the work it's the player's girlfriend.

At Arkansas if you arent in class and on time for class you aint playin. He has suspended several over his time here for just being late to class. Beilema dont mess around with grades. It doesnt happen too often now though.
