Coaching is more important (see Baylor, TCU, UCF). But to be elite you've got to have elite players. Look at Bama- they are stocked full of elite high school players but not every team looks like the team that crushed ND. You never know what a kid is until he plays with kids equal to him...and no kid at these schools have ever done that.

Recruiting is very important . With out great recruiting classes a championship is almost impossible . You got to have coaching to as everyone has seen at UF with Zookeeper and Muschamp. Other things will play into winning like schedule , experience and luck.
