Because:
He is Auburn's Head Coach.
Do I need another reason?

I don't think Gus' resume was strong enough at that point for texas to call. I have no idea though
There was a rumor that it happened. But I don't believe it. I think he's a good coach, and the situation was perfect (as perfect as going 0fer in the sec can be) for auburn to bring him in. But like you, I can't see that resume really playing out many other places who weren't already very familiar with him, much less Texas when replacing mac brown.

I don't dislike malzahn.
Tubbs was juvenile as hell with the whole fear the thumb crap, but I realize he was playing to his fanbase. I think he was a pretty good guy too. I never could figure out why the AU Administration hated Tubbs so much though.

How is a guy that looks like this not part of that network?

LOL! He sure is a good ol baw, just not in the network.
I will say, from my mom's experience working in the Camden, AR schools back in the day, people are (or at least were) strange in his hometown.

He looks enough like an anthropomorphic aardvark without basically inviting the comparisons by going by Arthur. He almost has to go by Gus for his sanity.

In time, discover you will.

Arkansas has historically put out some damn good football coaches.

80-38 in the two years vs your NFL pro style coach.

He's better with X's and O's than PC's

I don't think he's talking about coaching ability . I imagine "suitcase" and "petty" will pop up somewhere if he expounds upon his analysis of why he doesn't like Gus.

With players recruited for (and some by) Malazhan's offense vs. a total rebuilding job post Petrino/John L.
Apples, oranges, that kind of stuff.

Because we were so damn good in 2012 when he left only a dumbass can't see that malzahn is a great coach. He is also a football freak just like all of us. Were all football nerds, just like him.
