Or they could just be saying this for political reasons

I wouldn't doubt it.

The proposed UT Austin academic extension campus south of the Astrodome on 200 acres has pissed off U of H and their state reps.

I think this is a quid pro quo.

No baseball. Athletics department as a whole is garbage. They only half fill their stadium vs rivals as it is. Would be a home run for CSU, major dilution for the conference.

The "big" annual CU/CSU game at Mile High Stadium never comes close to selling out. Pretty sad on both fanbases' parts.

In fact, Houston almost was allowed to join the SEC in the 60's. They were sponsored by Ole Miss.

And what evil single SEC school put a gun to the head of the majority of faculty reps and made them NOT let U of H into the SEC?

Were they scared, too?

Yup, pretty much

From the very article you quoted.

1. Alabama vs. Texas A&M
2. Alabama vs. Florida (SEC title game)
3. Alabama vs. LSU
4. Oklahoma vs. Texas
5. Houston vs. Temple (AAC title game)
6. Alabama vs. Auburn
7. Baylor vs. TCU
8. Arkansas vs. Texas A&M
9. Houston vs. Navy
10. Alabama vs. Tennessee
11. Ole Miss vs. Texas A&M
12. Michigan vs. Ohio State
13. LSU vs. Florida
14. Michigan State vs. Iowa (Big Ten title game)
15. Oklahoma vs. Baylor
16. Texas A&M vs. Arizona State
17. Oklahoma State vs. Baylor
18. Texas vs. Notre Dame
19. Oklahoma State vs. Texas
20. Texas vs. TCU

Analyzing this further, removing the championship games from the group, you get the following teams in the 17 other top rated games.

Alabama - 4
Texas A&M - 4
Texas - 4
Baylor - 3
LSU - 2
Oklahoma - 2
Oklahoma State - 2
TCU - 2
Arkansas - 1
Florida - 1
Houston - 1
Michigan - 1
Navy - 1
Ohio State - 1
Ole Miss - 1
Tennessee - 1

Going even further in depth, let's examine games on this list that took place on the same date (or even at the same time):

September 5th, 2015:

16 - Texas A&M/Arizona State vs. 18 - Texas/Notre Dame (same timeslot)

September 26th, 2015:

8-Arkansas/Texas A&M vs. 19-Oklahoma State/Texas

October 3rd, 2015: 20-Texas/TCU outperformed every other game that week in the Houston area.

October 10th, 2015: 4-Oklahoma/Texas outperformed every other game that week in the Houston area. (Texas A&M had a bye that week)

October 17th, 2015: 1-Alabama/Texas A&M vs. 13-LSU/Florida

October 24th, 2015: 10-Alabama/Tennessee vs. 11-Texas A&M/Ole Miss

November 7th, 2015: 3-Alabama/LSU outperformed every other game in the Houston area

November 14th, 2015: 15-Oklahoma/Baylor outperformed every other game in the Houston area

November 21st, 2015: 17-Oklahoma State/Baylor outperformed every other game in the Houston area

November 27-28, 2015: 6-Alabama/Auburn vs. 7-Baylor/TCU (Friday) vs. 9-Houston/Navy (Friday) vs. 12-Michigan/Ohio State

It goes without saying that Alabama/Florida was the highest rated game during championship weekend.

So what does that mean?

In every instance in which one of the top 20 games in the Houston area was an SEC game, that game outperformed every other conference in the Houston area that weekend. The most telling? A&M outperforming Texas in Houston in the same timeslot

So, if you remove all the games that were outmatched during that weekend, the CORRECT top games in the Houston area would look like this:

1 - Alabama/Texas A&M
2 - Alabama/Florida
3 - Alabama/LSU
4 - Oklahoma/Texas
5 - Alabama/Auburn
6 - Arkansas/Texas A&M
7 - Alabama/Tennessee
8 - Oklahoma/Baylor
9 - Texas A&M/Arizona State
10 - Oklahoma State/Baylor
11 - Texas/TCU

One final point: SEC Network won't release ratings until year 3 (2016 season). As a result, we don't know how those games performed in the Houston market.

smokescreen

UT wants a campus in Houston and are getting it. In return they are making it look like they want Houston to the B12 when they know it will be blocked by the old B8 schools.

The governor has no say in this. People are comparing this to Gov. Ann Richards "forcing" the Big 12 to take Baylor, but it is a very different situation. In Baylor's case, it was "take Baylor or these three state schools aren't coming." There is no similar threat with UH.

ETA: I just realized I completely misunderstood "President of Texas". I didn't realize he had chimed in and figured the OP was being a wiseass. In my defense the Governor of Texas did earlier. I have to admit I don't get why UT would want UH, unless it is a weird ruse.

You know damn well Texas didn't want UH in the SWC just like they didn't want them in the Big 12 when the SWC broke up so UH had to join CUSA.
The SEC deal was after the 1955 season and UH applied for SEC membership with OM as their sponsors. I don't have a member vote but they were declined.

Are we sure it was Richards and not Bob Bullock forcing Texas Tech and Baylor on the conference?

No, I'm no historian and it might well have been Bullock rather than Richards. Point stands, though. Texas state government doesn't have a big stick (or any stick) this time.

So, I see Col. Aggie Lobotomy has worn out another government-provided Blackberry keyboard with his furious typing, while on government time, while in the comforts of a government office, to restate what the foremost expert on Houston sports television wrote:

There is parity right now between the SEC and Big 12 in Houston television ratings.

He also leaves this out for his drive-by aggy fanboys:

quote:

Also of interest is the breakdown based on individual schools that participated in the 83 games with at least a 2.0 rating. That indicates where the viewing loyalties of Houston viewers reside.

Here are the leaders, including both cable and over the air games: Alabama 10, Texas 9, LSU 8, Notre Dame 8, Baylor 7, Houston 7, Oklahoma 7, TCU 6, Oklahoma State 5, Ole Miss 5, Auburn 4, Michigan 4, Michigan State 4, Ohio State 4, Texas A&M 4, Texas Tech 4, USC 4. That gives us six Big 12 schools, five SEC schools, three from the Big Ten and one each from the American (UH), Pac-12 and independent Notre Dame.

So... aggy is hiding behind the skirt of the SEC to claim their sliver of parity. The BIG BAD SEC and all those aggy eyeballs translates to parity with a very down Longhorn team and what aggy considers the worst group of football schools ever assembled.

quote:

SEC Network won't release ratings until year 3 (2016 season). As a result, we don't know how those games performed in the Houston market.

We do know, however, that the ratings for Longhorn Network games on a "network that no one watches" outperformed aggy on ESPNU.

Poor aggy.

When I saw "President of Texas", I initially assumed we were talking about the governor of Texas haha. I wish they actually called the gov the pres in Texas, I kind of enjoy the novelty of their dillusion.

It's like when people yell "MURICA! HELL YEAH!!" on the 4th, it starts out as an ironic and extreme display of patriotism but in reality we don't know if they're joking or if the budweiser has soaked through to the bone.

And they fill it with 15,000 regularly.

I really like their season ticket perk. They give you an AK with every two season ticket packages so you can get in and out of the neighborhood with minimal injury. For night games it is suggested that you bring a hand gun as well.

As long as Sumlin is there, everything is possible.

Cougars dumped Florida State, they would make mincemeat of the aggies weak arse defense.
