Everyone wants to dance around the issue here. I will throw the turd on the table for you. What got LSU's jimmies in a knot was the bridge scheduling (and you can add the Arky- LSU scheduling too). When the bridge schedule was made LSU and Bama were peaking. The SEC office turned to one of their VP's that had nothing to do with scheduling to create one. This VP happened to be an Alabama alum that worked in the football dept before moving to the SEC office. He was a self-professed lifelong Bama fan. He produced a bridge schedule that put LSU playing UF/USC and then UF/UGA out of sequence while Bama played UT/Mizzou and UT/UK out of sequence. I believe they also had to play Ole Miss at home twice in a row (correct me if I am wrong on that).
Then add in to the mix that Saban lobbied the SEC that LSU/Ark should be on Fri after Thanksgiving so the Iron Bowl would not have any TV competition on Sat. LSU/Ark wanted to play on Sat but Bama got their way as Bama always does in the SEC office.
The fans can BS about this all we want and it is just that but when the team admins have had enough of it that should tell you there is fire in that smoke. Miles has been vocal about it and one other SEC Coach is tired of it - Steve Spurrier. The others have not been around long enough to see it or don't have enough clout to fight it...FWIW

Here's the thing....can anyone point to a year when LSU beat Bama and bama still won the west cuz of schedule? I can't remember a time. If u don't win the head to head no room to bitch IMO.

*sigh*

Scruffy is disappointed at how slow the gumps and hillbillies seem to be. Education in those states seem to really be lacking, and it is sad if someone from LA points that out.

It has nothing to do with SOS. Bama can play a weak schedule every year, for all Scruffy cares. It has everything to do with not playing teams for years. Teams in the same conference should not go 6+ years without playing each other. Can you even consider them to be in the same conference at that point? That is insane.

They should've gone to 9 games. Alleva is a tard.

I want to see LSU play other teams besides UF every year. UGA, SCAR, Vandy... all places I want to visit multiple times. Gainesville? Lol... place blows.

Care to link that? Because the guy that controls the bridge schedules is the same guy that sent UA to Baton Rouge back to back the last time there were bridge schedules.

If you have to lie to make your point, you never had one to begin with.

I like playing Florida, but I would rather rotate and play other teams more often

I can point to a year when scar beat all east teams and didn't go to Atlanta.

Care to defend that?

Scheduling does matter.

Yeah, they lost more total SEC games than UGA that year. So you don't want SEC games to count towards who's the best in the league? They lost at HOME to a crappy 7 win Auburn team and Arkansas beat them silly.

Of course the schedule matters but they will never be equal every year unless the SEC decides to play Evey team each year and even then its still not equal due to home vs away games.

Just like this years schedule, LSU has an easier SEC schedule than Bama.

Also, don't forget 2006. We beat Arky, and they go to Atlanta.

Because it's not fair. Ever. Some will have long periods of potential losses while others will have long periods of certain wins. In a division where one loss is all that matters in who goes to the championship game, that is patently unfair to be forced to play that game when others you are neck and neck with have the equivalent of a rent a win.

It doesn't matter that it's a lie. LSU pussies need to have something to cry about. It's what they do.

On a personal level, I like UF-LSU because its the very first CFB game I ever attended (1998) and its also the matchup I've seen the most.

I do miss playing Auburn every year though. Fwiw, Auburn-Florida was a legit rivalry for a long time before the 2004 season.

Probably not:

vs wisconsin > vs WVU
@ Auburn > vs Auburn at home
@ Florida > vs Florida at home
@ A&M > vs A&M at home

The road team usually does better in the LSU/Bama series so I consider that one a tossup

The SEC pulled the "permanent cross divisional rivalry" thing out of thin air in order to maintain two rivalries in Tenn-Ala and Aub-UGa. None of the other teams (now 10 of them) have any reason to care about the permanent cross-div. system.

Once you look at things this way, the question is not "why are LSU fans against it," but rather "why is any fan of any team that is not Tenn, Ala, Aub, or UGa in favor of it?"

2013 Bama and LSU opponents had the same win/loss record 80-73

and Bama was at Auburn and A&M

I didn't take the time to look and see if this would have changed anything, but what if cross-divisional game record was not taken into account when determining division champions? The only time this could be an issue is in the event of 3 way ties like in 2012 with LSU, Bama, and A&M. In that case, you could use the cross-divisional record to decide who goes to Atlanta.

Not a perfect solution (especially in the playoff picture), but it could help for conference championship implications.

Sounds like more bending over backwards to maintain a couple of rivalries that only involve 4 teams. We get that Auburn has been playing Georgia for a long time. We just don't really care.

No, the permanent cross-div. system must go. It is antiquated, unfair, and coercive.

I agree that something needs to change. I really just don't see them abandoning the permanent opponent anytime soon. I was just curious if this could be a band-aid that would at least quiet the opposition. No major change will happen until schools vote for the 9 game schedule or until another expansion, IMO.
