I honestly underestimated the care LSU has for the cross-divisional games. I was under the impression we were more or less concerned about beating whoever was presented to us rather than trying to plan out an easier road to the now playoff system.

Good thread.

Permanent cross-divisional games weren't really an issue until expansion. As I see it, it is one of two solutions to fix the problem of literally going a decade without visiting some other schools. The other fix is a 9-game conf schedule. I think both are required.

However, we now know that the AD's/HC's aren't looking at it that way... or at least voting that way. If I recall correctly only 2 schools voted for ending the perm cross divisional. Alabama wasn't one of those. On the other side, you would figure that the 2 schools that want to end the perm would have voted for 9-game schedule, they did not with only Alabama voting for that. So it's more about each school wanting something for themselves (which I can't fault), not getting together for the big picture.

ETA: the bridge schedules are a different and independent issue. I think part of the problem here, on the Rant, is that the two have been merged.

Florida seems to strike a chord with some Tiger fans, but I like it and a victory against Florida is a boost in BCS or otherwise and a loss not necessarily a death knell to the season. If anything strength of schedule should rate more than it seems to. If a number one Florida comes into LSU and wins over a number two LSU or vice versa that should be factored heavily in post season match ups.

The Florida game is always one of my favorite games. Florida has had the most SEC Championship Game appearances with 10 (going 7-3). Bama has the 2nd most appearances with 8 (going 4-4). So going by the numbers, it's much harder having Florida on LSU's schedule every year because they're facing the teams with the top 2 most SEC Championship Game appearances and wins (though LSU is tied with Bama with 4 SEC Championship Game wins). You get beat up playing the big boys every year.

Tennessee had a great program for a long time, so if they would start winning again, the scheduling thing wouldn't seem like that big of a deal. It's just taken them longer than most people thought it would. Even in UF's worst year in 25+ years, they still beat Tennessee by 14. Plus, The Swamp is seen as one of the toughest places to play (minus last year). If Tennessee re-establishes itself, things won't seem that lopsided.

With good non-conference games disappearing, it is fun to play other East teams more. So I think people would like seeing teams rotate more because it makes it more interesting.

Not reading this whole thread, but FLA/LSU is not a 'manufactured' rivalry. By the time the SEC split in 92, we had been playing them annually for over 20 years. We had played Florida far more often than we had played Auburn, by the way.

I like playing Florida every year, but the eternity between playing other teams in the east is annoying. I suspect most LSU fans feel the way I do.

Sounds like more bending over backwards to maintain a couple of rivalries that only involve 4 teams. We get that Auburn has been playing Georgia for a long time. We just don't really care.

No, the permanent cross-div. system must go. It is antiquated, unfair, and coercive.

I don't care about the UT/Bama game or the UGA/AU game. like the other 9 teams don't.

4 teams are holding the rest of the SEC hostage in playing a more round robin type of schedule.

frankly, it's bullshite that LSU has to wait until 2025 to go back to athens. 11 years! jesus christ that's ridiculous

SEC should have just come down and said, no, no more. we're having a 6-0-2 schedule and that's that. deal with it. every team plays every team and the UT/UGA/AU/UA rivalries aren't going anywhere, they just wont play each other every year.

Why do we play them is my question? Things change. Saints get moved to NFC South. Seattle gets moved to NFC. We establish a BCS and now a playoff but yet we keep these games? Why? Other than if Alabama is involved somehow, I dont understand it at all.

I've said it on here multiple times: I'm outraged our permanent cross-division game is in Gainesville. It's not like the city is a shithole, but it really sucks compared to Knoxville, Nashville, and ESPECIALLY Athens. It could at least make up for its dullness with a great tailgating scene and hospitable fans, but they really don't have either. The swamp is nice, sure...but it's really not worth the flight/drive

Auburn used to have to play UT, Florida, Bama and Georgia every year and sometimes LSU as well. Dont recall a lot of bitching from us then. You play whose on the schedule.

There is the indisputable fact that Florida's been the most consistently dominant program since we went to the cross divisional schedule, they've played for more SEC titles that anyone and won only one less than LSU and Bama combined. I mean given that it's kind of hard to argue LSU doesn't get screwed- if for instance they Tennessee they would have struggled in the 90s through the early 00s but since then would have had a solid decade, almost the opposite is true if they'd had Georgia, USC pre-SOS would have been nice as well.

Yes that's the case currently but that could change overnight. UT won't stay down much longer and the Tigers have defeated the Gator's 6 of the last ten. It's a negative much more for the fact that the other cross-divisional venues are seen once per dozen years. That sux big-time.

No, LSU fans have a point. if you were going to bet on a SEC team being great in a random year Florida and Alabama would be the two safe bets and Florida might be the better one.

The SEC did take it to a vote though - and we got what we got.

Easily solved, schedule GA OOC.

LSU votes against nine game schedule and schedules Townson type teams instead of USCe and UG.

My hypothesis would be that the East schedule does not matter as much as people assume. In years where LSU wins the West, it is because they beat up the other teams in the West. In years LSU loses the West, they were not good enough to beat the other West teams anyways.

This is actually spot on. When we are good enough to beat bama, typically we are good enough to beat anybody from the east during this 7-8 year stretch of the west being a little better. I love the Florida game but would also like to play the other big teams in the east more often but not at the expense of a guaranteed big game atmosphere every season.

The part where anyone has anything negative to say about LSU's scheduling, especially OOC.

LSU does, after all, not only play one of the toughest OOC schedules anywhere. But they also win them all.

Longest regular season OOC win streak in the country.
