I recall Jim Brown pondering the same thing in the late 70's, early 80's timeframe. I love Hershel, but if the great Jim Brown, who was the baddest mother fricker on the planet when it came to football, decided against it while in his late 40's, I seriously doubt Hershel could do it.

This
I'm curious to see how fast he runs at 53.
4.6 or 4.7?

Players in their late 30's are old in NFL standards. Herschel at 53 is a dinosaur and his body could not handle the beating it would take. Even in this pussified era of PC football.
If he does decide to attempt it, I will be rooting for him, I just don't see him being successful.

Do yall not realize he wouldn't be attempting to grab a starting spot and get 25 carries a game?
First of all, this isn't going to happen anyway. Second, if by some chance it DID happen, you'd be talking about 2 maybe 3 carries a game, IF THAT. Hell maybe 2 carries every 2 or 3 games. There is no reason whatsoever to think that someone in his physical condition couldn't run for 8 or 10 yards every other game.

Was Brown fighting professional MMA bouts (and winning) at that time?
As others have said - it ain't happening, but if HW did somehow get a few carries, it would be garbage time and more of a publicity stunt than anything. Which is why I hope it doesn't happen.
I don't see Quinn giving up a roster spot for that kind of situation.

Again, I'm a Herschel fan and old enough to see him play in college and the pros. Alot of respect for the man, but if it's just a publicity stunt, or just 2 to 3 carries a game, it's a joke. I mean if he can't be effective, no reason to do it, which is why Jim Brown decided against it.
Herschel has a firm place in NFL history and no reason to tarnish it with a publicity stunt or garbage time play. I'm old school on alot of things, and this just reeks of stupidity.

I'd like to think this NFL stint is more of a self motivating thing for him at his age. Kind of a mind over matter deal where he wants to personally prove something to himself and isn't seeking more publicity.
