How many of these threads are we going to see?
Bama's defense just wasn't good this year. Normally they stop the spread - don't panic. The same for LSU, Florida etc.
Nobody is going any faster - offensive coaches are out working defensive coaches and High School teams running more than the power I and traditional option.
Can we all agree -no more of these threads?

I can hear all the gadget guys like Malzahn and Sumlin and Freeze and Kiffin,etc..singing some Kendrick to Herbie and Saban and Miles.
"Bitch don't kill my vibe..bitch don't kill my vibe! I can feel your energy from two planets away."

The Fast Break teams should be ruled out to - not fair if other team can't get back on D. Lots of injury potential as well.

Yeah, I'm sure that's it.
Alabama's defense was 6th in scoring defense even after the Iron Bowl and Sugar Bowl. It wasn't on par with some of the years past , but it was still one of the best in the country. That's the point of these threads. Even the best defenses in the country can't find a solution to combat the tempo.
At what poin do we allow recievers to get a running start like arena football? It increases offense and that's what you all want, right?

I agree with several points that represent both sides of the argument.
The beauty of the up-tempo spread offense for me is that it doesn't allow for the D-Coordinator to rotate players for particular downs or schemes.
I would say that the best defense for this type of offense is to analyze tendencies. Every O-Coordinator has their go-to on particular down and distance, so as a D-Coordinator you have to coach up your defense to anticipate plays and recognize offensive personnel placement on the field.
Oregon systematically picked Florida State to pieces, because FSU could not change their personnel to adapt to down and distance. Oregon toyed with them, and probably could have put up 70 in all likelihood.

Football is cyclical
People only complain when it is convenient for themselves. Oregon is really the only team that can run at that kind of a pace consistently. It's not like every team is going 100 mph every game

Solid analysis. We need more football minds like you are here.

ALL defenses are having problems - talent doesn't matter as much. Alabama had a 5th year QB/former DB/RB, who had no business being behind center this year, break offensive records running a faster-paced game. Auburn had a QB (who probably should have been playing DB or RB) take them to the Natty last year. The pace now, not the (what we think of as historical quarterbacking) ability of the player, dictates a lot of success these days.
Everything we knew about football is changing from an offensive prospective. Teams without the talent of other teams are much more likely to play competitively with these type of offenses.
Is adapting now letting a team have 500-600 yards of offense but do your best to play more rugged in the red zone (like Bama did to Auburn) and holding down your turnovers (like Bama didn't do against OSU)?
Think about it, Alabama had more yards this year than in the past, yet scored fewer points than they have in the past few years. Is that progress?
I don't know what the answer is. I'm not in favor of changing any rules on offense though. What can you do from a defensive perspective though?

I'm perfectly fine for tempo.
I'm against teams using tempo to break other rules (like getting a ineligible receiver downfield, etc).

I like the HUNH offenses. The defenders have to use their brains along with athleticism to stop the offenses now more than ever. Whip the defensive line into shape and let's play ball.
