Ted Roof's defense shut down Oregon's HUNH -

Herbstreit needs to quit whining - the fact is - better athletes are playing offense and the QB is getting better in College because High School's are passing more. The speed has nothing to do with it. Defenses can think as fast as offenses -

And the idiot refs refuse to call blatant holding, allow blocking down field on passes, and rush the ball to the line of scrimmage like fools instead of controlling the game.

No QB who has ran he spread has ever been worth a crap in the NFL.

Maybe defensive minds shouldn't be retarded and adapt. Or at the least condition their players to keep up.

I'm kinda inclined to agree with this.

What is so great about a bunch of huge fat asses clogging up the lines?

Just about O-line in the SEC averages 300 pounds now and the SEC has the heaviest O lines whereas the Pac 12 has the "lightest".

No. Horrible excuse.

We don't need any new rules, but they do need to add 2 or 3 more refs. The more eyes on all this crap the better imho.

FAIL

I would agree that many spread QB's are more athletes than pure pocket passers - but talent is talent (see Cam)

Also - your Bammer pro style QB's all suck in the NFL.

CFB needs to have some type of physical fitness component for the refs to adhere to. Too many times we've seen plays run before the refs or the chains are set.

I noticed some of this in the FSU/Ore game and the IB had the issue with the play/nonplay.

Cam is just as lucky as Auburn. His team is in the playoffs with a LOSING RECORD.

But I see what you mean. But there is a difference. The really only way to slow down a spread offense is to target a player and make sure you injure the dude.

Offense has gotten to the point that if you take just ONE player out of the game....them the whole team goes to shite.

You are a bych for wanting to watch pussy ball. I have made up my mind to watch the NFL and quit watching college football if something doesn't change.

Sissy fricks like you are what is wrong, not Herbstreit.

The rules committee meets this year, and they can pass something without the rest of the college coaches input.

I don't thnk anybody on the SEC Rant knows more about defense than the DC's at major college programs and if there were a way to stop the spread that consistently worked, I think someone would have figured it out.

The one team I thought that had it figured out (LSU) just got rid of thier DC (happily, it seems) so I'm beginning to think that there does need to be more thought put in to the rules and how they apply to tempo. I was originally of the opinion that defenses just needed to adjust as well, but even now Alabama has started running an up-tempo offense with Saban as the HC shows how much of an advantage (at this point, well within the rules) it gives over a defense.

ETA: Make that two teams that have figured out how to stop the spread.

I think you might be onto something here... It's hard to run a hunh or spread offense if you are waiting for a 300+lb ref to set the ball.

And they are mostly older. I don't have a problem with the speed, I just hate to see the game not called properly.

Hopefully all of you bitches will watch the NFL playoffs this weekend. Let's count how many of these offenses go hurry up during the game (not counting 2min drill).

Please don't make excuses about how their offenses are different when they run hurry up. Hurry up is hurry up - and some offense coaches/players can run it better than others. Making rules to stop them is another step towards the wussification of america

Isn't this already done to some degree?

No, and I don't know why everyone in this thread is saying "yes". The ref only does that if the offense subs a player, then the ref will allow the defense to make a match the new personnel. Most HUNH don't sub for this very reason.

The wussification happened long ago when they passed most rules to favor the offense. frick man, nobody can be really hit anymore without getting kicked out of the game.

The defense should be allowed to sub every first down, and the clock should stop until its done. This will be enough to stop teams abusing the HUNH.

If this isn't done defenses should just fake injuries every fricking play.
