Hendrix record at home vs Ole Miss: 1-0-0

What Is Shirttails?
quote:

History

On November 7, 1913, the Hendrix football team (known as the Bulldogs at the time) beat Ole Miss 8-6. A spontaneous celebration erupted as over 200 male students paraded in their pajamas through downtown Conway. Community members crowded the streets to watch as the group traveled to what is now Central Baptist College and UCA, seeking praise from administrators and professors at the schools. By the 1920's, the parade had been reenacted a few times and morphed into a "Pajama Parade" where male students travelled to the all-female Central College to serenade their lady friends. The serenades stayed on campus after Galloway Hall, the first woman's dorm at Hendrix, was constructed in the 1930's. Over the years, the tradition grew, and a fierce competition developed as more men's dorms were built by the mid-1950s. With men bringing props, instruments, and dance moves to enhance their elaborate serenading routines, the ladies felt they should return the favor. Thus, in 1984 the female version of Shirttails was born: Long Shirts/Short Shorts. For the next two decades, the tradition continued to evolve, little by little, until it took the shape of the dance competition we celebrate today. While the dancing has become the focus of our modern-day festivities, the Wednesday night Serenades are a nod to Shirttails' earliest beginnings. Over these last 100 years, the events of Shirttails have slowly changed but the uniform of boxers and button-downs and the spirit of camaraderie remains the same.

Looking back at Hendrix win over Ole Miss
quote:

The most recent football game played between a Conway-based institution of higher learning and the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss) was played in the fall of 2012. The University of Central Arkansas (UCA) Bears, a Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) team, lost to Ole Miss, a Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) team, 27 to 49. Even though the Bears lost, UCA played well and was leading the upper division team at halftime.

The only institution of higher education in Conway to defeat Ole Miss in football is Hendrix College. During the 1913 football season, Ole Miss, coached by Bill Driver, brought a team of 18 players to Conway and was defeated by the Hendrix Bulldogs by a score of 8 to 6. The Troubadour (the Hendrix College yearbook) listed 16 men on the 1913 Hendrix football squad, but the 1913 team photograph showed 23 men in uniform. The “Bull Dog” (the Hendrix College newspaper now known as The Profile) reported that 14 Hendrix football players were used in the Ole Miss game. The Bulldogs were coached by W.M. Headrick, who was referred to as “our new coach,” in the 1914 Troubadour.

A great deal of pre-game anticipation was experienced by not only Hendrix College, its students and supporters, but also by virtually all of Conway’s residents. Newspaper articles about the game appeared regularly in the Log Cabin Democrat on several occasions before the event. The first article that discussed the big game was carried in the Log Cabin Democrat on Oct. 20, 1913. That article focused on the past success, tradition and power of Ole Miss, and the relative inexperience of the Hendrix Bulldogs. While no prognostication was made for the score in the game, it was apparent that Hendrix was not expected to win the contest.

According to the Log Cabin Democrat, “Ole Miss, the gridiron team which is dreaded by all southern colleges, will arrive in Conway Saturday, Nov. 8, for a battle with the Hendrix College football aggregation. The record on the scalping path made by Ole Miss this season as well as past seasons, is a source of much pleasure to their fellow-students, while, on the other hand, they invariably leave many mourners behind them…With thousands of students from whom the coaches select the varsity’s squad, it is certain that a team will be chosen which can ably defend the uprights of their alma mater.”

Hendrix throws the best parties, and makes some of their money back by bussing in the UCA kids. Great school, but extremely liberal.

Sounds awful. Condolences for having to live in Conway or Arkansas for any amount of time.

This is your best effort at a troll? With the season right around the corner? Jesus...

You really did leave it all in the off season.

Serra you need to take some time off. Go watch the last few Alabama vs Tennessee games and get that edge back. Its depressing to see you like this.

They didn't for about 50 years. They have one again now.

Hendrix used to sell great tshirts that said "Undefeated in football Since 1964".

Conway's a nice big suburb of Little Rock, home to three colleges. They've really upped their game downtown, and UCA has a great campus.

It's actually very nice, once you get away from the parts near Tennessee.

This is true, the further away from Tennessee the nicer state tends to be.
