Everyone loved the Dykes hire... at first. John L. Smith was an emergency hire. He sucked but you take what you can get in that situation. Pelphry seemed like a good hire at the time.

We all despise Bert now... but at the time he was a home run hire it seemed like.

I hate the extension and buyout too, but when Long handed it out, and it was a major mistake, it did seem like Bert was about to turn the corner for Arkansas.

Instead he didn't.

He's taken some risks that didn't seem risky but backfired. Welcome to big time sports.

All of the hires he made that turned out to be poo... didn't seem that bad at the time. Some of them seemed really good. I get that you are hate fricking a Bert Blowup Doll right now but Long has done a pretty good job here at Arkansas.

Who does he get to replace Bert is the hinge point of his tenure here. If he hires someone that steps in and does great... and you left out all the winning coaches he has hired I noticed... then we won't be saying anything.

You despise Bert and you'll piss all over the entire athletic department to show it... but overall Long has done a pretty good job here.

What he actually said was that for Bret to be fired Long would have to go first. He didn't say that it was happening.

I love when Sulli gets dirty!

That said, I’m less than enamoured with Long myself but as long as we can Bert sometime in the not so distant future I can deal with Long for a while longer.

Quite the opposite. I think that Bielema is a fine coach and will be successful eventually. He just ran out of time here. Simple as that really.

I do not think Long has done a good job here. Those hires, even if they seemed good, weren't. That's on him. No matter how much someone wants to spin it, he failed at that aspect of his job numerous times.

I have no agenda, just telling it how I see it.

ETA: I think Bielema could do well for himself by working as a position coach in the NFL for a few years. I bet he could get on with New England, and he could benefit a few years at a program like that. He's still young.

It's pretty hard to respect the opinion of someone who doesn't actually know that Pelphrey WASN'T frickING HIRED BY LONG.

Long was still at Pittsburgh when Pelphrey was hired.

Wanted to address this too.

Man, I really wish they'd make a run at Fuentes from VT. I think he could step in and have immediate success with Bielema's roster. Not like Alabama level success, but I'm confident he could take this current roster as it is now and be better than Bielema is right now. In a few years time, Arkansas would be damn tough.

He's also like 1.5 hours from home here.

You're right about that. My bad. I don't know why you feel the need to shout.

If I've offended you, you have my apologies.

Killean has anger issues- not sure if it’s a chemical imbalance or sexual deprivation but something ain’t right with him.

Wally also said BB went to a Tx HS coaches conference and pissed them all off. He has seemed to cut his Texas pipelines off that are critical to UA football.

Yeah, this was pretty much confirmed right after Arkansas lost that second game to Texas Tech. Kingsbury made public comments about it right after the game and gloated about "kicking his arse."

We won't get Fuentes. A solid hire but right now he's in a steak and blowjob job. An extremely fertile recruiting ground with limited competitors.

Fuentes is in a destination job right now. To get him we would have to splash an obscene amount of money.

Which could lead us to Bert 2.0. We dropped an outrageous sum of cash on a coach that... didn't work out.

I say we go young and get a good coach that won't break the bank.

and no big buyout, so give him 3 years and if no progress go find another one, repeat until somebody shows improvement

In that case my other dream candidate is Chris Klieman. That system they have at NDSU is bad arse. He could POTENTIALLY work out very well. He could also fail, and if you're going cheap, revisit it in a few years.

And I agree they're more likely to go the cheap, young route.

I disagree with this bigly.
John Pelphry, Jimmy Dykes, John L. Smith, and now Bret Bielema.

Pelphry was hired by Broyles and John White.

That isn't true.

Long isn't tied to the hip of a coach, he gives nothing but support to his coaches publicly, but this isn't a new GOBN like with Nutt and Broyles.

It started with Petrino, he pissed off a lot of HS coaches in Texas his last two seasons here.

What are these "critical" pipe lines?

The critical pipe lines were severed when Arkansas moved to the SEC, Ford did a good job restoring some of them, but it was less than maintained by Nutt and all but destroyed by the coaches that followed.
