Perhaps not quite as successful as Sims, but AJ Derby was the Arkansas QB most of the year last year and has turned into a very good TE for the Hogs.

As for Hogs switching positions, the HDN years are littered with guys who played one position at Arkansas and then were standout pros at different positions. Jason Peters (Defensive Line in college, turned All-Pro OL in the NFL) and George Wilson (WR in college, turned All-Pro DB in the NFL). Also I seem to remember Jamaal Anderson started his career at Arkansas as a WR and became a standout DE for the Hogs and later the Falcons.

That can be said about a whole lot of things. This place was 100% convinced that johnny was going to flop in his second year and that Mike had a good freshman season but he was no moncrief

Karlos Dansby was a receiver & move to LBer. The greatest position change I can think any AU player has ever made.

I was talking about changing a position in college.
Sims was recruited as a QB. What did he do at a different position that was so great?

Hines ward moved around alot. Started at RB, went to QB for a year, then two years at WR... Great pro career.

Ryan tannehill was a receiver, became a QB, started for 1.5:seasons, was a top 10 pick and started for the dolphins from day 1

Clear winner IMO. Tannehill is getting better every year in the league too.

Karlos Dansby was a WR his redshirt freshman year at Auburn. Then moved to LB.

I think we always wanted him at safety but in his first year playing (2002) he had 2 stalwarts there already so he got more work at LB, which he was not suited for. One of the big reasons (among many) we lost to UF that year is because he was so unprepared at LB to defend the swing pass which they ran like 15 times. 2003 and 2004 he was an all american caliber safety.

reed played running back to start his career at LSU and we switched him over.

Also Corey webster came in as a wr and saban put him on D. Nick Saban is a master at changing players positions and having them perform.

- Karlos Dansby came to Auburn as a WR

- Bob Sanders came to Iowa as a RB

- Dallas Clark played linebacker his first two years at Iowa

- Brian Urlacher played safety in college

- John Lynch played linebacker in college at USC

The only reason you say not counting transferring school is because Nick Marshall went from CB at Georgia to the best QB in the SEC at Auburn

It's not uncommon

Cris Collinsworth was recruited as a QB and threw an NCAA record (tied) 99-yard TD in his very first game. He was switched to WR where he was All-SEC 3 times, All-American and a 3-time Pro Bowler.
