Ga. Tech would be #7 & they left the SEC in the 60's.

When I was younger GT was one of the six as Florida was a nobody back then. Ole Miss was a power at the absolute wrong location and time in history. They got screwed.

I think the definition of the six probably changes with time and the fluctuating nature of the game. In the early days Sewanee, Tulane, and Vanderbilt were the beasts of southern college football.

Sewanee gave us the Iron Men who will forever be the greatest single college football team of all time

Tulane gave us the Sugar Bowl and the "Queen of the South" and their decline of the Rose Bowl as it interfered with academics allowed Bama to carry the flag

Vanderbilt was a beast in the early days of college football and if not for the efforts of Dr Dudley what is now the SEC would not exist at all.

Georgia Tech in the early days was along the lines of Notre Dame as a representative of the south and should be remembered for their effect on the national power of SEC football.

They also lost every single game in the actual SEC. All 37 games.

38 points - Tennessee (6 SEC East titles, 13 SEC titles, 2 NCs)
37 points - Florida (12 SEC East titles, 8 SEC titles, 3 NCs)
34 points - Georgia (7 SEC East titles, 12 SEC titles, 1 NC)
30 points - Auburn (8 SEC West titles, 8 SEC titles, 2 NCs)

I always thought one of the best metrics in sports is the ability to win at the highest levels with multiple coaches should always be included.

When you win over say 50 years and do it with at least 2 coaches you are a power program.

I am not sure it has been called the big six, but has been referred to as the six going back to the old days with Georgia Tech and Tulane.

Not really, "the six" remain "the six"
(5) Alabama | Wade. Thomas, Bryant, Stallings, and Saban
(3) LSU | Dietzel, Saban, and Miles
(2) Auburn | Jordan and Chizik
(2) Tennessee | Neyland and Fulmer
(2) Georgia | Butts and Dooley
(2) Florida | Spurrier and Meyer

Former SEC was a "six" when they were in the SEC
(4) Georgia Tech | Heisman, Alexander, and Dodds in the SEC :: Ross in the ACC

This is how it looks for the BCS era (1998) forward, since nobody gives a shite about titles in the 50's. Big 6 still the Big 6 in the modern era. I like this point system, we should update it every season.

22 - Alabama
19 - LSU
17 - Florida
13 - Auburn
9 - Georgia
9 - Tennessee
4 - Missouri (2 SEC-E, 2 Big12-N)
3 - A&M (Big12 champs 1998))
2 - Arkansas
1 - Miss. State
1 - S.Carolina
0 - Ole Miss/Kentucky/Vandy

How many SEC Championships do the non-B6 teams have? 9

How many since 1975? 1 (UK 76)

SECCG wins? Yeah, none.

Pretty divisive, none will challenge the 6 anytime sooner either.

Does having the so-called "Big Six" around breed divisiveness within our conference?

Um..... No. Rivalries and competition divide our conference. I have never heard that term outside of this forum.

Holy crap- one more win in Atlanta and Florida will have more SEC CG wins than non-B6 teams have total SEC championships.

Since it is the Big 6, and it is traditionally 3 teams from each division, you should consider that it is impossible for all of the teams to go undefeated. Perhaps you should award 1 point for finishing 5-3 or better in conference in a season, and subtract 1 point for finishing 4-4 or below in a season.

As an LSU fan, I realize this will hurt LSU, but feel it would help accurately reflect long term success, and keep teams from having a 4 or 5 year run that puts them in the Big 6 after a long history of sucking.
