We had a conversation about Vandy not selling out yet for Ole Miss. Another thread about Bama not selling out the student section. UT has excuses, but all they were talking about in July was failing to sell tickets.

With so much football on TV, do y'all think passionate fan interest may have crested? Meanwhile, schools are expanding stadiums.

Schools are expanding stadiums.

/ThreadOver

Though, if they start paying these kids like professionals, then I'll say it's crested.

I don't think it's that simple. Auburn's holding off on expansion because it's not convinced about the demand.

Florida had a consecutive sellout streak from 1979 - 2011 I believe.

Meaning even when winless, we still sold out. Yet we can't even sell out a few games as a top ten team. Something is happening, and I don't like it.

A&M had the highest demand for tickets in our history

They are going to have to make nose bleeds more accommodating. More amenities. And much cheaper.

Auburn doesn't sell out regularly. Never really has. A huge game? It'll be full.

Alabama, LSU, and Michigan sold out regularly and expanded their stadiums. Numerous schools are still applying and succeeding in entering the FBS division.

I think ticket prices will fall fairly soon to increase demand. I promise you if I could get two decent seats at every Auburn home game for $1000, I'd pay it in a heartbeat.

I can agree with this

NFL dominates the football world, and its market share grows every year. I think CFB's glory days are likely in the past.

Your average sports fan has become disenchanted with the post season format, omnipresent scandals, and lack of parity.

I don't blame TV so much. Perhaps there are many CFB fanboys who insist on watching five games a day instead of attending their favorite team's game.

In reality, it's the fact that Florida is opening with Toledo. Auburn will play Arkansas State and every team has a few "Little Sister for the Deaf and Slow" school on their schedule.

That's what stops consecutive sellouts. I think the playoff system will fix that in later years when it expands. Schools will recognize that they don't have to go undefeated to have a shot at the championship. They'll be more inclined to schedule more big games which will increase revenue rather than play a patsy $1 million dollars and watch their seats stay empty for a few Saturdays.

That's a good point. I can't imagine being a non-SEC fan right now. Seven straight years, and most of the BCSCGs were blowouts. Not to mention in 2011 they watched two SEC teams play.

I'm not sure they believe they can compete.

It's gotten very expensive and you can see almost every game on TV. The NFL is experiencing the same thing.

It's not that CFB (or the NFL) have "crested." In fact I think the interest and passion is greater than it has ever been. It's just economic reality and television that is changing the dynamics.

I do think there's pressure on ticket prices. $65 for Vandy-Ole Miss? Is that what I heard?

Attendance in MAC and Sun Belt games is not exactly stellar. Arkansas State led the crowd last year at 26,000. Troy? 21,000.

So it has nothing to do with looking down the road at a rough 4-6 year stint right?

Read "Seats of Gold" for the biggest issue involving the future of attendance. Schools have been "harvesting" too long without "seeding" for future growth. When the Vols switched to IMG to sell their tickets that is a huge disconnect from the past. When "donations" drive out the masses you will have lower demand. The biggest issue with college sports is aggressive spending and no Scottish folks seeing that this money is well spent.

If they aren't selling out, lower the ticket prices. Supply and demand. The economy is rough, gas is high, ticket prices are going up, HD TV makes staying home more appealing. It's a perfect storm.

South Carolina sold out every game the season we went 0-11. All other fan bases can suck our dicks when it comes to true fans and loyalty.

Still have to make the playoffs though...
