LSU replaced a shite ton from last year's team and got hot near the end of the season.

The team, and the possum, were all young.

"Never had much luster. The stadium is just like any other". Funny, the Coastal HC said just the opposite, saying that he's played in Blue Bell Park against the aggies & at S.Carolina & LSU's atmosphere was "incredible", an "unbelievable experience". He also said he wished college baseball crowds around the country was as good as LSU's. ESPN's announcers said the same all season long. Some LSU "fans" are just spoiled non fans.

I've asked this in the other 32 threads started by Bama fans about LSU baseball

When did Bama start caring about baseball of any kind?

Do yourself a favor and go check out Coastal Carolina's record, OOC schedule, and RPI. If you peruse the TR, you'll see LSU fans knew this was going to be a tough test for such a young LSU team. CC is just a good baseball team that could legitimately win the entire thing.

They are consistently the ones who point out baseball viewrship compared to women's bball viewership. Yet as soon as LSU loses, the Bama SECr posters are suddenly college baseball enthusiasts.

Has Alex Box lost its luster?
by Govt Tide

Super Regional sweeps by Coastal Carolina and Stony Brook in recent years and even a mediocre at best Bama team was a late game Sunday meltdown from sweeping LSU there this season.

What about the 2013 Baton Rouge Super Regional victory over Oklahoma?
What about the 2015 Baton Rouge Super Regional
victory over Louisiana Lafayette?

LSU has won 7 Super Regionals in Baton Rouge since 2000.

Well ive been both and I can tell you the new one just don't have the rowdy fans the old one had, the new box is nice, but look under the grandstands and see business men and women sitting on there hands, they need to give there tickets up to real fans, look along the sidelines and outfield, or standing room only that's where the real fans are, not in the grandstands, that's just a bunch of old guys that don't have anything else to do with there money or got them just cause they can and wont let them go, but continue to take up space. Just because you have money to get season tickets in the grandstands don't make you a diehard fan, sorry for the rant but its just not the same. Corporations have taken over the Box, not the fans

One Stony Brook did not sweep LSU and second Bama was at the beginning of the SEC season. LSU was young and finding itself in that part of the season. Also early season SEC crowd is nothing like the crowd that shows up in May and June for post season games. If a top ranked team is in beginning of SEC schedule, then the atmosphere is vastly different. Alex Box is still one of the best and most intimidating venues in college baseball. This LSU team was not expected to be in this position with all the players that left from last year. CC was just better.

we returned one starter from last season. Easy to see why we didn't make it to Omaha.

The "new" fans in the Box are the same as the fans in T.Stadium now. It's not a knock on the Box or T.S. It's just the way fans are now, across the country in most sports. Would LSU be having the success it's having baseball if it was still playing in the old Box? When all the other successful teams are playing in new, great ballparks? H.school players today know literally nothing bout the old Box & its atmosphere. We would get killed in recruiting.

It's the same place that allowed a victory lap for another team. The fans care too much about being the best fans in the country.

This.

I can't tell you how many times I've thought to myself, "Man, LSU would be a lot more successful if they would just stop being so damn nice to the visiting team and fans."

The old Alex Box had "luster." The new Alex Box will never have it. It is what it is

Getting swept by Coastal Carolina has nothing to do with the stadium losing its luster, more so to do with good coaching by Carolina.

Carolina has more veteran talent than LSU in my opinion. Many of us felt this was a bad match-up on paper and that proved to be the case. That being said, LSU still could have beaten CC with better execution because they did create opportunities. Very porous defense for a Maineiri coached team also. Only a couple of sure-fire future Major-leaguers as opposed to the half-dozen they generally have. An over-achieving bunch who stopped over-achieving at a bad time.
